    Default Poll: Occupy Movement

Given the other Wall Street thread, I'm curious how the Beyond demographic stacks up....

You know, the longer this crap goes on, my mind is changing about one thing.

I now think it's wonderful we live in a society where a bunch of largely middle class kids can put on this kind of "protest" without any dangerous repercussions.

In some countries, and at some times in the past in both Canada and the USA, this kind of event would have been met with violence. Now, we just shrug and go about our lives. That's a beautiful display of tolerance by the rest of us.

I still think these kids are a bunch of misguided, lazy entitled retards with no real issue to protest against other than the fact that they don't understand how the world works, and they are sure that they'll never be rich.

Myself, I can't really identify with them, but I'm hoping, out of the thousands of protesters involved, we'll find maybe a handful of people who go on to become effective leaders.

^ You make it sound like you wish the police would come in and use force because you disagree with their message and legitimacy.

It has nothing to do with tolerance and everything to do with our fundamental freedoms.

How can you call yourself a canadian and yet not grant fellow canadians the fundamental freedom of:
    (c) freedom of peaceful assembly

You're like a christian that has never read the bible.

How can you be surprised that the police are not using violence against a group of peaceful protestors exercising their fundamental freedom.

+1. I didnt vote because I agree with them to a point but their stupid tactics and stubbornness to leave is pissing me off. We heard you, GTFO and go protest in some other way.

Bunch of lazy idiots that barely have a point. Yes there is a very big gap between the rich and the poor....and yes alot of people in the top 1% have gotten there by crooked means...But let's not forget the ones who got there with hard work, long years at school, and lots and lots of patience...

If you want to make more money work harder and don't bitch, whine and moan for hand outs like a bunch of bums.

They are allowed to protest so long as it is being done in a legal manner, in this case it is not.

You do not need to use violence to arrest them and prosecute them. They are in violation of City of Calgary bylaws as well as aspects of the Criminal Code. They have stated they will not move despite being told to by the bodies with the legal right to evict them.

Why is the law applied differently in this case?

I find a lot of the protesters have no idea why they are there. They just had nothing better to do because they don't want to try and achieve anything so they joined in on the protest for the hell of it.

I'm not sure we should be complaining about the 1%, we should be complaining about how the USA has treated banks and currency. They seem to have forgotten about actually having something to back currency with. It was US greed that caused a lot of this crap. Although the crap across the pond is pretty much just lazy people wanting something for nothing by the looks of it.

Agreed 100%, the hilarious thing is I didn't really understand what they were protesting for quite a while so I watched some news vids and read some articles with quotes from protesters, and guess what? I still have no clue what the hell they are really protesting. They are so damn vague with their message and don't really seem to be offering any sort of solution.

QFT. The "official" protest location is somewhere else. Technically, they're just squatters and entitlists.

I think these people absolutely have the right to protest whatever they want regardless of how silly it is.

However they do NOT have the right to willfully break the law with respect to their little campouts scattered all across the land. Each jurisdiction should have cleared each campsite out the first night it happened. These people can go back to their parent's basements each night and meet up again each morning.

I don't care if they protest but I do care that the laws of the land are not being enforced on these crybabies.

    Middle class kids??

You guys keeping up with the New York stuff?? It's insane. Growing, and Michael Moore is even on site

They are gonna have to call in the national guard to get rid of them.

    Crazy times, that's for sure.

Why should they be allowed to create slums out of our parks and public areas.
