Default frequent flyer carry on help

Any frequent flyers that would be able to tell me if i could carry on both my alienware backpack which is rather large to fit my 17" PLUS my 19" carry on bag. It's rather vague on every website that says you can carry one bag plus one personal item that includes a laptop or maybe a laptop bag etc. Would the backpack be considered too large as a "personal item"?

Ive seen people do it on various flights. If you can keep one under your seat and the other overhead I think it's okay. If they both need to go up top I'd say no.

i would go out on a limb and say yes my wife always has a stupidly large purse and a carry on suitcase, as long as the suitcase fits fine in the overhead bin and backpack under the seat.....unless you get the over zealous gate agent then all bets are off lol

The max dimensions for each item are pretty clearly laid out at Westjet - Carry on baggage size allowance
Each airline should have a similar website. Although, from what I've seen, they all pretty much have the same rules.

Also, you can general get away with something slightly larger than those dimensions, but you have to decide if it's worth the risk if you are asked to check it. Most airlines charge for a second checked bag nowadays, so it could cost you a pretty penny for being a couple inches over the size limit.

Carry-on size suitcase plus sizeable backpack is fine, I travel like that allatime. If you board early enough and there's room, fuck em, throw them both up top. Usually I have a bag of duty free and a jacket too
