Surprised the boyfriend with a trip to Vegas. Is all there is to do there is shop? Or is there anything we should go see?? Attractions and such? Suggestions would be appreciated!

this topic has been covered. There's nothing that you CAN'T do in Vegas (although some things will still get you arrested).

If you have an idea in mind of what you might like to see/do it can help people point you in the right direction...in terms of shows you could check:
    http://www.vegas.com/shows/

not necessarily the cheapest tickets available, but at least it will show you what's showing.

If you're trying to impress the boyfriend, rent an exotic, or take him to the Las Vegas Speedway and you can get him behind the wheel of an exotic for a couple laps around the track (a better value than renting btw), go to the gun shop and fire off an automatic weapon, or if you're less morally inclined, there's always more fun to be had in vegas.

Terry Fator show at the Mirage is easily one of the very best shows you can see. Easily one of the most entertaining. He is constantly sold out though so I'd suggest calling the second you arrive.

As for Cirques. Zumanity is one of the best for couples. There is nudity involved but if you two sit down near the stage on the couches the show becomes a lot of fun. The interactivity with the host is really insane for a Cirque.

Easily two of my favorite shows and we've seen many. KA is another good cirque but do not get seats close to the stage. It's like sitting in the front row at a move theatre since the stage is 200 feet high.

Lots more to do besides shopping and gambling.

I'm one to talk though last trip we took in May I hit a royal flush playing texas holdem and came home with a decent amount of cash

Instead of creating a new thread, I thought I would seek advice here. My wife and I are going to Vegas from Nov. 14th to 17th. I have already booked 2 shows and paid with my credit card. We booked a supper reservation which I can pay with credit card. Food, shopping etc. I can pay with credit card. Not a big gambler, but would probably play some penny or nickle slots.

Can I just withdraw some cash down there as I need it?

I don't really want to bring any with me. Not for security reasons, but I think I will spend more if I bring it.

    Thanks for the advice.

I am in the Vegas airport as we speak. The shows down here are great, there not something that I would suggest do with your buddies.

With the dollar being the way it is, take out cash at home as your CC charges a premium.

That all being said Vegas is wicked but has been cold the past couple of days.

You can just withdraw cash with your debit card. You don't need to use your CC. Look for ATM's that are on the PLUS network. You get charged the current exchange rate.

I went down to Vegas on Thanksgiving weekend with the girlfriend. Stayed at the Vdara on the CityCenter complex. It was a nice hotel, however it felt like it may as well have been off the strip because of the distance and confusion of getting around that place. I'd probably stay at Caesers or Bellagio next time I go.

I did not watch America's Got Talent, but we went and saw Terry Fator at her request. Pretty good show, some decent laughs for sure. I can see why he won America's Got Talent and why they handed him a contract worth several millions of dollars.

Vegas is fucking awesome! Love that town. You could honestly spend an entire day just walking around all the hotels on the strip. Freemont is kind of out of of the way if you are staying on the strip, but its pretty cool to see. And its pretty cool walking through the Golden Nugget. They still had actual coin machines in Downtown Las Vegas, that really surprised me.

Yeah I am thinking I might take like $50 US and then just use my debit card as needed. Pretty excited for this trip as neither the wife nor I have been to Vegas. We are checking out Believe by Kriss Angel and Cirque du Soleil. It has bad reviews online, but hopefully they are wrong. Also checking out Mystere by Cirque du Soleil. Having our anniversary dinner at Mix a top Mandalay Bay.

I love Vdara. That's become my favorite place to stay. But having said that, although it's billed as being 'on the strip' it really isn't and can be hell to walk because you have to walk 5-8 minutes through the Bellagio from their check-in desk. If you have a car, it's a great place to stay because getting in and out of there is easier due to the walkway. There's no insane pedestrian crossing like there is to get into Paris or Bellagio. And with valet being free everywhere, I'd much rather drive across the street to PH (or any other casino) than walk.

For Cirque shows it basically comes down to any show that you see first will be your favorite show, and every other Cirque show won't be as good.

There are also smaller shows that you can go to that don't perform in giant theatres. There's a theatre in the Miracle Mile Shops attached to PH that has a couple different shows that are good in a much smaller venue.

I'd personally recommend just using cash because you'll find it easier to track while you're there. From my experience, you won't realize how much you've spent on your credit card until at least 3 weeks later, which can sometimes lead to a look of surprise when you open up that statement.

No, I don't think you need a rental car unless you plan on driving to the Grand Canyon or something. When I went, we walked and took cabs.

Unless you plan on spending a lot of time off-strip, there's no reason to rent a car. But like I said, make sure your hotel is actually on the strip, and doesn't require a hike to get to.
Vdara for instance, is considered on-strip but you have to walk through the Bellagio to get there and it can be a hellish walk late at night when you're drunk and/or tired.

Rental cars are cheap as dirt in Vegas, and there is free parking at every hotel. I'd rent one just to avoid paying a cab every trip.

Just getting from the strip to the outlet malls is $20-$25
From one side of the strip to the other is like $20 - $25 as well

Hell from the airport to your hotel your payin $20 and $20 back, If you can get a car for cheap I'd def rent one.

Free Parking at the new Strip, if you go to freemont Street its like $5 to park... (unless of course you are staying at the hotel)

Edit: If you already have shows booked then don't worry about a car I think

and there is ATM's EVERYWHERE but its like $4.99 or $9.99 service fee + they rape you on exchange rates...

What hotel are you staying at?

See, and I'm totally of the other opinion. When I go to Vegas the last thing on my mind is saving money. I go to party and live like VIP. The last thing I want to do is drive around looking for parking lots like some local shmuck. I've done both...rented a car one trip, and cabbed it everywhere on others. I've found driving around the strip a PAIN IN THE ASS. The parking lots are always way the hell in behind the strip. You have to drive 3 blocks just to get there, and then walk forever to get into the casino. Then you go out for dinner and have to worry about drinking and driving back to the hotel.

Nope...I want to walk out the main entrance. Snap my fingers and within 5 seconds I'm on the road to my next destination. I get dropped off right at the front entrance at every casino. Baller! Pffft....I'd MUCH rather fork out the money to be driven everywhere.

The only time we enjoyed renting a car was when we ditched the strip and went to Red Rock Canyon, The Dam, outside the city etc. But when partying on the strip...cab FTW!!!

    - Day trip to Hoover Dam/Grand Canyon (if you haven't gone there either yet before).
    - 'Premium' outlet shopping.

Driving in vegas is hazardous for your health, no joke. They have some insanely crazy drivers down there and some of the cab drivers have death wishes.

What we really should do is a create a beyond card counting team and all go down and make some coin lol

Also an FYI the Rio which is just off the strip has the best buffets in the city, they can't be touched. The seafood buffet there is just awesome. They don't have much for shows and their tables aren't as packed. We love staying there as we constantly get comped free rooms.
