    Default Chipping a Diesel Truck

I can't find anything from general supplier lists, so was wondering what you would recommend for a good chip replacement for a 2011 2500 Duramax Silverado.

It's funny, In school today they were passing around a duramax piston with a hole burned into it from a programmer (run in performance mode).

That being said, I hear alot of people mention a shop called DPS in town. I think they mainly do cummins performance but they'd point you in the right direction for what your looking for I would imagine.

Bullydog, SCT, Edge are going to have your chip. As Alak said DPS (Diesel performance specialists) near UrbanX south would be able to tell you more if you dont want to buy online.

Unknown303 ran a chipped LT1 for a few years. It was an older one though. I think his was a predator. I ran an edge on my gasser truck for a while. It was good, I kind of regret selling it.

Call MPL Motorsports in Lacombe. You'll probably have to leave a message because it's just the owner and another mechanic in there. It's frustrating at first until you have your truck in there, but when you do, the last thing you want is him stopping work on your truck to answer the phone every five minutes.

I think if you're looking for a DPF/Urea delete your only options are H&S or Bullydog. If not, but I don't know why you wouldn't remove that shit, there's probably a few more options. Do yourself a favor and don't buy anything Banks.

Your stock transmission is good for probably 50-75hp that you can use. I know most places say 100hp, but you'll end up having to be a lot easier on the throttle to help the transmission live.

And yes, your powertrain warranty is gone. I asked my dealer about how hard they'll try to keep my EFI Live on the down low, and they said if GM asks, they have to tell them. Your dealer would have to really want to fuck you though to take away your bumper to bumper warranty. I waved goodbye to my warranty at 16,000km.

People tear shit up because they drive like fuckheads. Get a pyrometer and keep your EGTs under 1100-1200F. Don't put it on the floor all the time. DON'T TUNE IT SO IT JUST POURS BLACK SMOKE ALL THE FUCKING TIME. If you do any towing or heavy hauling, turn it down to the tow or stock settings. Do that and you'll probably be okay.

My Dad chipped his with a bullydog (he deleted the dpf as well) it has a very smokey tune, it would turn his boat black when he towed it. He runs a banks chip now- no smoke, much better fuel economy, and more power than any truck should ever need.

+1 For DPS (Diesel Performance Specialists) Kevin is the owner and knows his stuff. Just make sure you have lots of room on your Visa when you go there!

DPS eh? Ok. First of all, transmissions aren't gonna be your only issue with programmers and a Duramax. You wanna make sure you change your head studs first, at the very least use ARP 12 mm, and that is not gonna be cheap. A head gasket job on a Dmax will run you a lot more anyways. If you don't even wanna do that, then at least run gauges, and make damn sure you get your foot off it past 1200 degrees or 35 psi.

Best bet is to check out Duramax forums, and find a reputable tuner who can build you a custom tune using EFI live. That is currently the safest bet for Duramaxes. FYI, mine is bone stock, just did a cat/egr delete and nothing else, and I have more than enough power to get the job done. And absolutely no smoke. I wouldn't recommend programming a Duramax, they just don't need it IMO. But if you're gonna, do your homework on EFI live.

Back to DPS. Called them about my EGR delete, wanted $50 for a blocker plate that I ended up getting for $9 on ebay, and $500 for 3 minutes of EFI live just to do the delete so as to not get CEL's. The whole time talking to me like I didn't know a thing about diesels. Once you have EFI live, ($700ish I believe) each additional VIN license is $100. Fact. I called up a buddy who had it, paid him $150.
I understand business and profit, but this seemed like gouging.

I would not recommend DPS. Based on my experience, my opinion is that if you don't know much they will take advantage of you.

There is no EFI Live for 2011+.

Also, I doubt that you'd blow the heads off before cooking the transmission. Get a boost pressure gauge if you're worried about it, and keep it under 40psi.
