Default Anyone try this light/security cam combo?

Just wondering if anyone's tried this out? Looks like a good setup, not sure how you get the video onto your computer. If you need to take the SD card out to view the videos then its kinda dumb.

    Wondering on video quality, etc.

    edit:
Not for sale anymore on Costco.ca but they have it at Beacon Hill.
Its a motion sensor light with a hidden video camera built in.
    Records to an SD card.

Pro's: Minimal wiring required except an exterior light outlet. No running wires to a PVR.

Cons: Records to an SD card and you need to climb up to get it out to view the video. But it's 2GB card records about 250 15second clips. Then when full starts to write over the oldest footage first.

As adam_c pointed out, you could buy the wifi SD card to mitigate lattering up to get the card out.

    Full review to come.

yea thats how you view them, not the best idea

I was actually just looking at the camera options on costco yesterday and was also wondering which setups are good for outdoor?

I'll pass, I'm not climbing up a ladder to get the card everytime I'm wondering if someone's been prowling.

I got that one from Costco, which sounds like the one you are talking about.

I just wanted a motion light with a powerful lamp. I couldn't give a crap about the bonuses like records 15 second clips and gives gay sounding verbal warnings that won't fool anyone.

I just figured If anything happened would be the only time I would take out the SD card, other than that I would just let it keep overwriting itself.

I also thought I would just easily select the no verbal warning but somehow every time it is windy out the f*cker repeatedly says "you are trespassing" all day long.

I have the light set to stay on for seven minutes but that doesn't matter. When we spend the evening on the deck, the light comes on for seven minutes the first time but after that it stays on for whatever it feels like.

I still have the box and receipt, I have been meaning to take it back.

Let us know how yours is. That will let me decide if I will exchange mine or get my money back.

Sounds good, I will test mine out for the issues you have with yours and let everyone know.

Also, I thought you could set it to be silent all the time? I hope so because I don't want to listen to that voice everytime I'm on my driveway.

I've had it up for 2 days, I wanted to get a few day/night cycles in before I pull the card.
I don't have an SD card reader. I will pull the card tonight and head to a buddies to see what the video looks like. I will try to youtube it too so you guys can judge for yourself.

    to answer big A:
Light seems to come on when set and then goes off. I move back in the sensor area and light goes on again, then off again after a minute or so of inactivity. Seems fine to me.
You can turn the voice notification off. Press the button on the side, it runs through the various notifications then the last press, should turn the voice notification off. It does for me.

Can you confirm it overwrites after the card is full?

looks like the siding is messing with the image, i think you might need to move it. You can see it dim the image as it trys to adjust

Ya you're right, the camera needs to adjust a lot in the evening. Here's a daytime test so people can see what it's like.

I do wish it would boot up and record quicker than it does.

I can try, it's going to take awhile as the card is a 2GB card and it only takes video if someone comes close to the house.

Not sure if anyone is still interested, but just to suggest another alternative... My friend recommended Foscam (http://foscam.ca/) as he had outfitted his shop completely with these (I think he's up to a few dozen).

I just picked one up myself and it's pretty impressive. $70-$90 (It's always on sale, I bought mine for the Martin Luther King day sale for $75. I think there's a new sale every week or two). I grabbed the 'Foscam FI8918W (Black)' model. I am planning on using it as a baby cam...

It is wireless, supports full pan and tilt, has IR included and the software is free. Oh, and it has two way audio. It has motion detect built in. I think it does some basic recording. it works with many other commercial software packages too, if you want some additional recording capabilities. There are many IPad/Android Apps (paid and free) that support it if that's important to you.

Setup took a couple minutes. Plug into router. Log into Camera. Change Password. Configure Wifi. Done. Now the one I bought is obviously indoor, but they do have outdoor cameras as well, which my friend has in his setup.
