Have quite a small window of opportunity when I get back into town and need to figure out where to get my tires studded. Is this common at most tire shops? Any place in particular you'd recommend?

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.
If they have been driven on, you're out of luck. Shops will not stud used tires since debris gets in the holes.

Speed Doesn't kill, it's the sudden stop at the end.
You will most likely get ripped off compared to what tire rack charges for studding, I think they do it for $15 a tire.
At my shop we charge 20-25/ tire if they were bought from us depending on the size.
We charge 25-30 plus the cost of studs if the tires weren't bought from us because it is a pain in the ass and time consuming as hell. We try and avoid studding if possible, thankfully most winters we sell are non studdable.
jordanturbo is like herpes... Always coming back for more

At least I'll know they'll be done properly at UrbanX south too. So stoked Gary found time for me during this hectic time of year!
