Wife and I left around 10:30 and they were diverting everyone off Deerfoot South onto CHB. Not sure how far it was closed as we took barlow all the way to memorial. I am assuming a death but I didnt see anything in City Beat, CBC, Calgary Herald.

I saw on twitter a car went through a gaurdrail and rolled, near the beddington ramp. no idea if this is accurate.

Tires were probably all-seasons, this could have been prevented if he had winters without a doubt.Originally posted by cancer man

I find it comical how they always start off these articles with "slippery road conditions and cold weather led to...". This is Calgary, we have slippery road conditions and cold weather over half the year, that isnt the cause of any of these "accidents". Driver stupidity and not adjusting your driving habits according to the conditions is what leads to "accidents" like this.
LOL On the top of the news link is a banner ad for Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires LOL

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

If he slipped across the entire road through a barrier onto another road, that is a ticket, unsafe speed for conditions“I guess winter claimed a victim here — witnesses had this guy going at about 100 km/h (within the posted speed limit),” he said.
heard on 660 news that some kid lost control, went off the road, and dropped 70 feet onto airport trail. somehow he survived and none of the cops could beleive it. alcohol was not a factor.
90 days on average with snow on the ground. I'll probably have my winters on until the end of february or mid march, and I just put them on a little over a week ago.Originally posted by J-hop

I really don't get why people say we have over 6 months of winter, it's only really bad for maybe 3 months, if even, plus we get our chinooks. We get cold snaps but I really don't think Calgary winters are that bad.
I never said 6 months of winter, and if you include the odd May snow storms we get yes you have to be prepared for slippery/cold road conditions for over half the year.
That is beside the point though, my point is the blame is put on the conditions not the driver, which is stupid, this happens every year, it's no surprise, but people act like it is.
I notice people are still tailgating even in these conditions. It's pissing me off that when I slow down for red lights I have to be more worried about what is in my rear view than what is in front of me.
Completely agree here.Originally posted by J-hop

I hate the sun but it was the first story I found of it.

I've driven many winters in this city on all seasons without landing on airport trail... You just have to adjust your speed accordingly and be a bit more careful.Originally posted by max_boost

Yes just like back in the day I survived a winter with my Bridgestone Potenza RE92's in my Prelude or some cheap all seasons in my 88 Camry but once you go winter tires you just don't go back brah.Originally posted by J-D

Last winter was the first I had winter tires ever. I'm never going back. No comparison. But when I did run all seasons, driving various cars over 8 winters, I still adjusted my driving accordingly. This guy clearly did neither.
Mike
Drove on winters for ever, last year new vehicle came with all seasons. No issues last year and this year so far. Driver error is probably the most commen cause. Not winter weather.
