Kind of a non-issue to me . It's basically just a advertising tactic, name recognition for the next election. Call yourselves what you want, but carrying the name "Harper Government" brings the negative connotations with the positive.

I see, well that makes a little more sense then.
I wonder who started the term "Harper Government"? I'm guessing it was something that came up in the media a few times and the PC's took it & ran.

It was a PMO mandate, who started it is irrelevant.Originally posted by Masked Bandit

And they're not the PCs.
Kinda arrogant in my opinion ... what's wrong with the term 'Government of Canada'?
It's been obvious to me for the last few years that the harper govt has been systematically dismantling checks and balances to government power. At each turn, it's spun as something beneficial.Originally posted by Tik-Tok

I'm sure someone more attentive than me has been tracking the blow-by-blow.
The opposition parties and the media have been referring to it as the 'Harper government' since they were elected in 2006.
Who cares?
You know the 'Harper Government' has been kicking ass when this is the best the opposition can dig up. The rest of the world is crumbling meanwhile Canada just keeps prospering so anyone looking for changes should IMO GTFO of the country as things can only get worse with an NDP or Liberal government in power.
^ Yes, the Government had everything to do with Canadian economic prosperity.
Has nothing to do with the oil sector, nope not at all
You mean that sector that the Liberals would cripple with carbon taxes if given the chance?Originally posted by SmAcKpOo

I'm not really loyal to any party, but Harper has been doing an awesome job through this recession.Originally posted by heavyD

Bad policy by gov = bad times for industry = bad times for economy
Look at what the NDP did to BC in the 90's (mining, forestry, O&G).
BC AB and SK are the only places on the continent that aren't shitting themselves right now economically. I'm happy with the way things have gone for western Canada in the past decade thanks to government policy, and consequently the resource industry.

They really don't have to *do* anything.
We got the oil and nickels. As long as they don't mess it up - $1 Billion dollars a day flows into our pockets for pumping liquid to the US.
The only reason places like Texas and Alaska are not doing as well is not because of govt policy - its because they have run out of oil and have to import oil to their already built refineries to keep them running (and keep jobs)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Al...Production.PNG
Alaska is producing about 1/4 what they did during peak times. It will not be long before it is 1/10th.
Although seriously - we should stop selling nickel to the US and leave it in our dollars - literally (the nickel loonie). Its ours afterall, and we should have first dibs. Giving away softwood lumber and nickel is a huge mistake on the part of the Harper government. Very communist, just like what Rob likes.

yes but a change in government and hence, policy could very easily "mess it up" as you say.
The reason the refineries in East Texas aren't producing as much is at least partly due to governmental policy. I know a lot of guys down there that are saying they'll have to shut down if they get carbon-taxed.
They have "run out of oil" largely because of the retarded off-shore drilling moratorium that sent every investor in gulf crude off to the north sea.
