Default Best way to send LARGE files computer-computer?

Need to get a 3.0GB file from my friend in the states to my computer.

Other than dropbox (limit 2.2gb storage), is there a digital way (and if so, which is best) to transfer this file?

    Thanks in advance!

You can zip and divide up the file into multiple parts as well.

Drop box it for sure. Split it into 3 parts 1gb each (winrar). Put part one on and get him to download it. Delete it and do the same with the other 2 parts.

You could torrent it as well.

Opera also released a new update today ... the updates to the mail app GUI make it freaking awesome.

Yeah, my friend is not too tech-savvy to begin with. She tried this, and whatever splitter she was using, it was compressing it to shit and fucking up the files.

Actually, she mentioned this as an option, that she would just send it and let me keep the USB lol!

Tried this, file is too big. And tried Yahoo too, also too big a file. AIM worked, however it would have taken 6 hours+ to transfer, so we gave up on that.

Trying this out once she gets it setup on her end! Hopefully all works well as their preview videos show.

by far the easiest, fastest and cheapest method is to set up an ftp server, and have her log in with an ftp client (i assume she knows how to do that). try this one http://www.warftp.org/

I used to use ICQ way back in the day to send large files..not to sure if its still around.

As Giillermo said, FTP would be the way to go if she has the capacity to get it set up.

Man.. I haven't even had to think about this issue thanks to SSH lol. Is that an option from where you're hosting the file? For the other side there are simple windows tools to use that will let you copy the file securely, pscp (from the same people who make putty).

Any way you look at this, either FTP or Web transfer...the time frame of 5-8 hours is about right. Unless your friend has massive upload capabilities...both on regular high speed broadband will give you those times.

it doesn't matter which side is the server or client, as you can upload or download depending.

It might matter in the sense that he would have better luck setting up an ftpd/whatever and forwarding ports through his router than she might...
