if you are parked on the street and the city makes a big ass mountain of snow along your car, do you have to make a hole to drive out yourself or can i abuse 311
thx

Unfortunately, you cannot. The city this year has proposed "Snow Routes" where snow plows come along and plow away the main roads in residential as well as main roads. You might be on a Snow Route - check the City of Calgary website.
You can't do anything about it but move your car when a snow ban is in effect (call 311, option 1). When in effect, and if you are parked in one you could be faced with a warning, fine and if multiple offenses - your vehicle could be towed.
Check to see if you're on a snow route.
Cheers,
Ray
Yes of course you can, they'll send out a special crew to clear the snow, brush your car off and if you leave the door unlocked some guy sits in the driver seat to warm it up for you too... and they even bring you coffee, I think you have to ask for the coffee on the phone first otherwise you get the cheap stuff.
Two hands working can do more than a million clasped in prayer...

Prime example of what I was talking about in the snow route thread; people bitch about having to move their vehicles for the plows yet at the same time will bitch if they aren't forced to move their car and it gets plowed in, no win situation for the city...Originally posted by bart

You'll have to shovel snow, like a Canadian. Not cry, like a pussy.
Damn City didn't plow the roads, now I'm stuck! I'ma call 311 and let 'em have it!
Damn City plowed the roads and left a huge wind row, now I'm stuck! I'ma call 311 and let 'em have it!
Damn City plowed the roads and removed the wind rows and did my sidewalk, now my taxes went up! I'ma call 311 and let 'em have it!
Ya...but you live in Edmonton...I actually feel sorry for you, it shouldn't be the other way around.Originally posted by 95EagleAWD

OP...Are you on a snow route? Either way you can't do anything about it. I used to get plowed in all the time at my old place because it was a "main" road. Sucked...but when you have nowhere else to park and no clue when they are coming...just have to pull out the shovel.

Here's a street just north of DT.
They can get your car out for you. Just wait for a few more tickets and they'll tow you right out.

That right there is in front of Grant MacEwan University, where edmontonians consider one of the nicer parts of the city.

Well thankfully I live in St Albert, so I don't have to live with the "shame" of being an Edmontonian.
That's ignorant and insulting.Originally posted by eblend

To the fine citizens of Calgary's NE.
I don't live on a snow route and my street looks like that too (a bit less snow though). Thats why I think residential snow plowing makes zero sense.
They should just ensure the main arteries are clear of snow. If people can't travel on the residential side streets, it means they need better tires.

LOL My buddy moved to St. Albert recently and wondered why EVERYONE on his block had at least one SUV. After being through one winter there and seeing the dump they got last year, he understands LOL.Originally posted by 95EagleAWD
