Default Buying a Phone off Kijij?

I'm looking to buy a new Blackberry as my torch's screen no longer works.

If a phone was locked to Rogers (I'm on bell). Is it as simple as unlocking it online and putting your sim card in it?

Any way to tell if the phone has been stolen or lost? The guy I emailed on kijij said it was "A gift" which is a big red flag in my mind.

Tittle should have been "off" not "of", my bad!

Ask for the serial/imei and run it by rogers to see if it's been reported as stolen?

Hopefully the seller would have more common sense then to pass over the IMEI in an email.

I don't pass on the IMEI to anyone before I physically hand them the phone, if they want to check it they do it while standing in front of me.

What harm would it do to have it in advance?

I tried calling rogers once with an IMEI and they were HOPELESS at understanding why I wanted to check with them the status of the phone. They didn't get I wanted to check to see if it was in good standing.

Don't think they'll do much for you when you call in.

For the seller giving out a imei over email is bad news.

It can be used to clone the phone and rack up charges.
If the buyer is selling a stolen phone they can use the imei they got from another seller and then provide it to others making it look like their stolen phone is clean.

I bought my iPhone off kijiji. Just arrange to meet the person at a Rogers store to check the phone to make sure it's legit. If they say no then obviously don't bother with the person. Pretty self explanatory

Like mentioned, just meet him at a Roger's store and have it checked there.

As for unlocking, all you need to do is buy a code on eBay for a few bucks and google instructions on how to unlock. eBay codes usually are sent within an hour if they're a good seller.

Be careful though.. Some phones are made specifically to Rogers' specifications and are gimped or lack certain bands that make them useless on the BELUS network, so even if you unlocked it, it'd be useless. Do your research.

Also, at the very least, check the litmus sticker for water damage. I almost got hosed one time. Luckily the phone sorted itself out after a few weeks.
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!

So I talked to the guy all night. He gave me the pin and serial number. I was going to buy it until he jerked me around saying another person was going to pick it up after 7:00. Then he wanted to meet at a train station, and his house in the NE.. Once I said no he could meet me anytime of the day.

Just got bad vibes so I backed out... I'll prob just buy a new one; save me the worry of buying a stolen phone.

I did a few times! All the 9810 torches are sold. I'll probably keep my eye on here for another month before I go to the store.

Lots of money to fix one drop that I did a year ago..

Screen is completely filled with dust, and the screen does not work when flipped out.
