Question Local CD to iPod/MP3 transfer service?

I have approx 200 CDs that I want to have the music transferred from onto my iPod.

Does anyone know of a local (Calgary or even Western Canada) company or person that offers this service?

This is the type of service that I am referring to:
    http://www.worldwidemusicnetwork.com/ipod.php
    http://www.cdpdx.com/CD_to_ipod_Tran...vices_s/49.htm

    Thanks

Find a young kid eager to make $100 and have them do it.

    Open iTunes
    insert CD
    Drag song files into library
    repeat 2 & 3

or if you have an afternoon to kill, do it yourself.

No need to pay a company to do this for you.

Its funny that you posted about this, I was looking for something similar for a collection of around 2000 CD's - Just thought I would resort to doing it myself or finding some kid who wants to make a bit of cash to do it.

I'll do it for $2 a disc. I'll even provide them on a nice large hard drive.

Would one be able to hook up multiple USB or built-in optical drives and transfer a few dics at a time?

I would be looking to probably pay some kid about $10 an hour to do it, which is about $1 per CD.

Or just wait for my Dad to retire and do it then lol.

Really? I can rip a disk in a minute or so using audiograbber.

    http://www.audiograbber.org/

    *hint hint*

Edit: it took 3:33 to rip and encode at the highest quality.

$2ea is more than I wanted to spend but since you are willing to do the job maybe we should talk! Can you please email or PM me?

Thanks to everyone else that replied. I know the work isn't overly difficult but I just don't have the time to do it - too many things to deal with at work!

Lastly, what settings need to be applied during the conversion to ensure I get the highest possible sound/file quality?

Via a program called EAC that can go back and check for errors and rip into a FLAC format. Depending on how you wanted to listen to this music, from there I would convert to ALAC or 320kps. 320 is half the file size, really hard to hear a difference to my ears however others will definitely say otherwise. Don't go lower than 320 though.

^^I'll agree with the quality recommendations. ALAC or 320kpbs is just right. I've tried to compare the two, to see if I could detect a difference, and I couldn't, using multiple headphones.

    All yours man.

If you use Audiograbber, then you can set it for 320kbps in the mp3 options using straight bit rate. That's what I used for a test. It rips to WAV, then converts to mp3.

I honestly don't think there is a sound quality difference between ALAC and FLAC, both being a lossless format. On some songs when comparing FLAC to 320, I can tell a difference but it's most noticeable in the bass where it is slightly more boomy and not as tight (and overall just more clean, a real technical term HA). But I mean, if you're looking for differences in formats so you just play a few select songs to justify it well, whatever. That said, if a FLAC format is available I'll take it over a 320 version, hard drive cheap enough I just don't care.

Just to give you an idea, Tuner1, an album in ALAC format is commonly 400-500mb per CD.

Wow, those are big files! This means that my 200 or so CDs would require ~100GB of space. Time to buy a spare hard drive and a bigger iPod Thanks for the tip.

Dont buy a bigger ipod just yet. MP3 are compressed to approximately a quarter of the WAV file. They can be stored as MP3's also.

FLAC are the large, better sounding audio format, that audiophiles usually prefer.

You'll be fine with MP3, at 320 as codetap suggested.

Get the 160gb video. It's nice not carrying about if it's all going to fit and leaves room for the future.
