Ya mine went up 1200 between 3 cars and a house. Going to shop around
Like the cellphone and internet business, I think you have to sign up elsewhere for discounts.
Neither of the Touchstone guys have ever commented on this in the forums, but I'm totally certain that insurance companies practice "rate optimization" where the raise rates on many customers above and beyond any changes in risk just as a method to increase profits. As part of this policy they EXPECT you to get pissed off and leave, but they don't mind because customers from competitors also will be shopping around, and they'll hook them in with low rates for the first couple years. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. It's a disgusting and cynical policy, but it seems to work.

Ya I was explaining that to the wife. At least I have time to get this issue solved. I’ll give a review if they get anywhere.
Anyone know brokers that work with Economical? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I really try to stay out of the specifics of most of the comments in this thread but friend, I can tell you with 100% certainty that this rate optimization that you've mentioned is absolutely not a thing in Alberta / Canada. I'm not going to dive into a debate online but please feel free to ring me at the office and we chat candidly (I'm always up for a good discussion).
You may have a hard time finding anyone willing to do business with Economical going forward. We kicked them out of our office this year and my understanding is that their representation in Alberta is down at least 50%. They have made several changes in the last 18 months that have made them a very unappealing organization to partner with. It's too bad really, I've got 20 years of history with them and I had to flush it like a dirty tissue. There have been some huge brokerages in Alberta that have cut ties in the past year. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Well, I do trust you and you've been very honest with me about several things, so I'll state that I must have been misinformed.

I’ll post my update, nothing has been determined on my side yet. I now understand why the rates have gone up due to the provincial government removing the 5% increase increments now they can do what they want as I see 20% increases, that’s my understanding anyway. I have received many quotes so far some are better some are worse. Not sure where I’ll end up yet, but seeing how things are out there I think the brokers have their work cut out for them dealing with increases and unhappy customers. I don’t envy the brokers position.
I thought i was the only one.. My auto insurance was $1632 last year and this year it was jacked up to $2100+ No accidents, no tickets, no claims! Pretty pissed off.

Having said that, I am now enrolled in the program where they track my acceleration, breaking, and time of travel to get a discount.
As of right now, my estimated discount is 25%

Odd, I've been with the same insurance company for over 38 years and haven't seen any huge increases and in fact, the cost of insuring one of our vehicles actually went down. Now we do not have new or next to new vehicles and that might very well be the difference.
Will fuck off, again.
@spikerS I enrolled for the same thing through Pembridge. You get a 10% discount right away for signing up and as you said, after 6 months of data it could be as high as 25% off. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The reviews for the app are abysmal though. Almost all of the users commented that the app shows them as hard braking even if they're just cruising.
Giving more data to a private entity seems like a horrible idea. Akin to giving health insurance companies your DNA to prove how healthy you are.

Save 25% but what do they do when you're in an accident? Toss you under the bus.

When I was with TD I didn't see any increases in 10+ years either. The thing is, I was paying ~40% too much the whole time and didn't even know it. Fool me once...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
