    Default Mirror less camera

    http://accessories.dell.com/sna/prod...1&sku=A5354658

This seems like a good price?

I have a DSLR now, I almost never use it, and neither does my wife. It's big and not as easy to pull out as the point and shoot. However the P&S is too slow.

So she'd like to use a better camera without all the bulk. The Sony ones sound okay, I realize they have a Nex 7 out now but its probably just overkill compared for what we need just like our DSLR is.

    Thoughts?

GF2 is cheaper but NEX-5 is a better camera

But yeah, I seems to carry GF2 a lot more than my D90 now. But D90 (rightfully) still provide much better pictures.

Love this thing. Touchscreen + button combination works wonders.

Loved the Sony NEX5, had blast shooting street with it and quality is comparable to DSLR.

That Sony sale comes with a 16mm which is equivalent to 24mm.

Only shot in MF mode (love the peaking mode) so can't comment regarding AF

Better in what way? Just IQ? There's way more to a camera than image quality. For starters, the NEX using a bigger sensor is also going to have bigger lenses. Then there's the great assortment of m4/3 lenses and support from 2 big companies (Oly and Panny) plus others like Sigma jumping on board. Food for thought.

Having said that, I am likely on my way to getting the NEX-7, but only because it seems like the best solution for mounting M mount glass (bigger sensor = less crop). I'll have the body and m-adapter and nothing else. At the same time, I'll be hanging on to my GF1.

I looked at a nex 7 and it's a killer camera but the native glass just isn't there but for adapted it would be great. The nex 5n is out now as well you might want to take a look at that or if it's for manual glass the 24mp aps-c samsung is pretty cool too.

The Sony peaking contrast feature is pretty killer for MF. The 5N is definitely a good option too but I just like the 7 in that it's such a photographer's camera body, like 3 programmable control dials... One more reason against the 5N is that it has no built-in EVF, so if you wanted an EVF, then no flash, where as in the 7, I can have both.

How about this new Pentax K01? It takes the same Pentax DSLR lenses but it looks kinda big.

This is actually a pretty good shop (digitalrev). Based in Hong Kong, so no warranty but their prices were pretty good (bought a Sharp camcorder for half of what Future Shop was selling it for). Ships very quickly by Fedex too.

Yeah that Pentax looks completely pointless... I can't see the point of it especially as it lacks an EVF.

When you mount an Olympus 4/3 lense on a Panasonic body (GF2), will you lose the image stabilization? Is the image stabilization that important (I never use a tripod when I take pics).

yes, Olympus has in body stabilization and panasonic has in lens stabilization.

I use a gf1 with oly and panny primes with no stabilization and I have no problems, but if using a zoom you'll need it.

I used a GX1 on my last vacation, unfortunately we have really crappy weather and it was a cruise, so there was zero time for photography.

Great little camera with a great selection of lenses, but coming from Nikon FX I really don't like dealing with the files.

I much preferred the files out of my old NEX-5, but Sony needs a really good wide angle lens before I'd think of switching.

I have owned a NEX 5N since September and the camera is amazing, I tested the Panasonic GF models as well as the Olympus PEN models. The 5N was by far my favorite, and more lens options are coming out every few months.

The RAW files. Compare a RAW file from a GX1 to a NEX-5 or a D7000 or a D3 and in my opinion it's the worst. Way more noise, and there's something weird that I can't put my finger on with the dynamic range.

It's not fair to compare them to a DSLR, but I think comparing to a NEX system is fair game.

The best camera is the one you're willing to carry with you
