^ I thought this was really cool. Such a waste to see it just sitting there. Just as far as you can see..... I'd be curious to see just how much that stuff alone cost new. When Communism fell; the need for all that just disappeared, so it was parked there and forgotten.

Some more related stuff from that site

Fuck that is cool, thanks for the link Graham!

I could spend hours exploring that place. I imagine a lot of the really cool stuff has been taken already but I bet if you looked hard enough you could find some fascinating shit.

I really like these russia pictures websites, Graham I believe it was you who posted the last one as well. It was just a bunch of interesting landscapes in Russia.

^ Probably. Tons of cool shit from that site. Its really interesting to see things on that end of the world. So very different then what we have here. Just odd; of how such garbled economic/strategic planning would leave such waste. Odd to see a city or a HUGE microwave research facility (etc etc) deemed "obsolete" and thus 'decommissioned'. Over here people would be burned at the stake for doing such things; over there its so common place its crazy.

On the topic of abandoned cities: If you want to see some really cool stuff, google Pripyat & Chernobyl. Both were prosperous sizable cities now completely (forcibly) abandoned as per radiation precautions.

Its like the equivalent of the entire city of Red Deer being given eviction notices. Everything is a time capsule to 1987 in the USSR.

    ^ Pics
Actually the game series "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." is based entirely off extensive photo logging/mapping of both cities. I've been meaning to buy all them on Amazon.

Then there is Hashima Island right off of Nagasaki.
here is the Wiki on it.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashima_Island
^ It holds and likely always will hold the record for the highest population density ever recorded.
    and the pic blog.

yeah i used to frequent ER lots, then my work's internet got degraded and the pages take forever to load. but makes me want to visit some of those places in RUS just to get like a soviet era poster or warning sign or something, would be cool for the house.

Holy shit, how did you find that site? Man $10k for some of those amphibious vehicles & Jeeps is pretty damn reasonable. Getting parts for them here would be a colossal shit show I'd imagine, but otherwise thats pretty damn cool.

Man a person could make a small fortune plundering some of those decommissioned military bases, grabbing the good stuff and using the rough ones as parts vehicles; then selling them abroad.

    Good part starts at 4:00
Places like Hashima Island have always creeped me out, they seem so fascinating and interesting but the urban decay is also unnerving.

EDIT: AndyL... maybe phone up InRich?

Saw that, but it would take a team of foreign relations experts to bring it over among all the red tape.
" So whats your reason for wanting to import this heavily armored flying gunship?"

"um...... just for some.... aerial photography..... I plan on using its machine gun holsters as camera mounts, those big lenses weigh a lot you know...."

Try importing the warship lol! Although you might be able to pass it of as some recreational watercraft.
