    30-1 = Pure
    30-2 = Applied

Never changed. It was 30-1 and 30-2 for a very long time.

Edit: Around 3-4 years ago, the term became more mainstream, but the course code was 30-1 for Pure and 30-2 for Applied for quite a while.

To OP, it seems like we might not be talking about the same things.

Take a look at this: http://education.alberta.ca/media/65...0_critical.pdf

It says there's a new course available in Sept 2012 called "Mathematics 30-2" and it is different from Applied Math 30 (which to people who graduated more than a few years ago knew it as 30-2). So they said they would not recommend taking "Mathematics 30-2" instead of Applied Math 30.

That seems pretty confusing, since the names are so similar to what it was formerly called.

I graduated 4-5 years ago and I don't recall Math 30-1 or 30-2 haha. Pretty sure they were called:

    Pure Math 30
    Applied Math 30
    Math 31 (Calculus)

30-1 and 30-2 were used for English and Social Studies.

Yeah I am pretty sure you are wrong, which is pretty hilarious because of how self assured you are.

It was called Pure Math 30 and Applied Math 30 when I graduated 3 years ago. That PDF pretty much proves that Applied Math 30 and Math 30-2 are different things.

Hey know1edge, you're more or less right. It's been more than 2 years for sure, so around 3-4 maybe? I remember back in 2006-2007, a math teacher talked about 20-1, 20-2, 30-1, 30-2 name change. It may have come official in 2007-2008?

I graduated in 2004 and pure was 30-1 and applied was 30-2. They never referred to them via number it was always pure, applied etc but if you looked at the course code when you signed up they used 30-1 for pure and 30-2 for applied.

This course registration booklet is for Diefenbaker High School, but I think it explains the progression in math courses pretty well. Look on page 16 of the document.

Just to let you know; I talked to a teacher who was in the advisor committee in creating the new math course.

Math 30-1 is specifically designed for university science courses specifically for engineering or science majors.

Math 30-2 is designed for nursing students or college entry courses (business wise).
    http://www.ucalgary.ca/admissions/alberta_nwt_nunavut
    Look under nursing (Math 30-2)

Math 30-3 is designed for the trades industry.

Math 20-1 and 20-2 have the same content, however, 20-1 is just heavier and goes faster while 20-2 goes alot slower describing each content.

I believe 30-2 has the same content as 30-1, however, once again 30-2 is alot easier.
