Two Charged for Ecstasy Causing Recent Deaths

The Calgary Police Service has charged two people after an extensive investigation into the trafficking of Ecstasy in the city.

Members of the CPS Drug Unit conducted covert operations and were able to obtain several quantities of drugs alleged to be Ecstasy.

Police sent samples to the crime lab and they have been confirmed to contain paramethoxymethamphetamine (PMMA).

As a result, investigators executed search warrants on two homes.

One was in the 6400 block of 4 Street N.W., and the other was in the 8500 block of 33 Avenue N.W.

They also searched two vehicles.

Police seized a total of 823.4 grams of powdered Ecstasy, including four capsules, with a street value of approximately $16,460, a collapsible baton, two knives and cash.

Joshua Bradly Cook, 19, of Calgary, is charged with 23 counts including:

Nine counts of trafficking ecstasy
One count of trafficking cocaine
Nine counts of possession of property obtained by crime
Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
One count of unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon

Elizabeth Thomas, 19, of Calgary, is charged with:

Three counts of trafficking ecstasy
One count of possession for the purpose of trafficking ecstasy

Looks like Josh's life is over at 19, hers too.

Drugs can be a quick cash game, but never worth it IMO. I've seen too many people do serious time..... and thats forgetting all the societal repercussions. Looks like they got greedy and put some pretty nasty filling agents in there to boost profits. Not uncommon in drugs at all, but considering the side effects can typically be death for whoever consumes them; it DEFINITELY is not worth it on absolutely any level.

As much as I believe in Darwinism for the idiots that would take such drugs despite knowing that Ecstasy is causing deaths; Im glad the people responsible were caught.
I cant even imagine being a parent to some kid that took this for the first time and paid the ultimate price for it.

It doesn't say THEY added the pmma though. They just had copious amounts of mdma that had pmma in it.

maybe thats why the charges are related to possession etc etc
and not linked to deaths, unless they arent revealing all the charges

Sounds like that could be right. This is kinda why I shake my head at people doing E and similar drugs. Breaking bad isn't real life, in most cases the guy cooking up what you put in your body probably didnt even take highschool chemistry let alone teach it

But I guess if you buy from a "legit" dealer you'll be safe

They got low level dealers. There are probably still people out there dealing the same ecstasy with the PMMA. The suppliers are still out there, and chances are they are staying low key for a bit until the heat blows over or until they can find a subsitute for the PMMA.

Also, on a side note. Is it a big deal that the ecstasy have resulted in death? Too me it is no different then junkies getting a bad batch of heroin.

I know Liss haha she looks awful in her mugshot picture. Sucks to be her, but I bet she doesn't even serve anywhere near a year. The guy is probably going to get fkd pretty badly though.

It's hard to say because my guess (as a non-lawyer), and as some have already said, they just had it for possession and possible selling. If they had known that it was THEIR ecstacy that was causing these deaths, and continued to sell in spite of it, then it'd be considered murder of some sort.

It's Canada. They will get a slap on the wrist and be back working at V-bar or one of the downtown scenes selling drugs again. I can't see these losers doing anything productive in life as it is.

823.4 grams isn't exactly low level. That's 3 to 4 thousand doses.

Yep, glad they are making arrests anyway. Lost a student to this crap. After talking with his friends, they thought it may have been his first time...freaking sad.
I'm certainly not a proponent of drug use, but I think there is a bit of a scale. Tons of friends smoke weed. I don't, nor do I care. I would rate "E" close to weed in terms of strength and addictive traits, but I'm no expert. It's certainly not beside crack on my scale. That said, the risks are there, being it's manufactured.
It's a shame lives are being lost though. Making this a priority is a step in the right direction IMHO.

I hope this was a very generalized statement. There are way more e/ m dealers in Calgary than just 2 people. E/ M dealers are as common as people calling themselves DJ's.

So someone who does mdma a couple of times a year, and dies as the result of one dose, is on par with a a lowlife junkie who shoots up every day?
