Default Safety Deposit Boxes and TD Bank

So i get a letter from TD yesterday informing me of rate changes to their safety deposit boxes.

Their standard rental fee for a large box is increasing from $90/year to $125/year.

Some of their other fee increases are insane: key replacement is going up from $4.95 to $50 and the drilling fee increasing from $104 to $200.

How much are box rentals at other banks?

Do you actually use a safety deposit box or do you have some kind of safe at your house?

Ya profit margins are slim at TD, they only made $1.6B in their last quarter. Gotta tighten up the finances

Large SDP at RBC is $275. (Medium/Large is $125). Not sure how that compares to TD sizing though. IIRC TD only had 3 sizes while RBC has 5.

I think the price of the box is based on the size. At RBC, I pay 60/yr but it's a medium sized box that I use to keep coins and documents in. I don't blame you for looking, those fee hikes seem a little ridiculous but then again, I have only seen my banks prices.

td has multiple sizes that fit into the small, med, or large category - large footprint but shallow, or small footprint and tall.

td large box is 17.6 - 27 sq in.

The credit will go up if the cost of the smallest box goes up.

Buy a good safe, stop pandering to companies that make billions in profits, and then cry poor to their consumers.

Out of curiosity, what kind of insurance do banks provide for security deposit boxes?

IE if something were to happen to contents under banks supervision?

As mentioned earlier, you can get a credit for the box instead and upgrade to a larger one.

Did you guys get a letter when the upped the minimums back in August?
I dipped below $1,500 on their value account and got charged when I thought the min was $1,000. I looked back at my monthly statements and they changed it back in August, I just don't recall ever getting a letter of the change...

I did get a letter this month saying they're jacking up the fees on my line of credit account too (I don't use it but fuck!)...
