Default job offer, then drivers abstract requested

Hey, so I got a job offer and signed the contract. Now they want to do all the back round checks including a drivers abstract.

I have a "young and dumb" 50km/h over the speed limit ticket from 5 years ago. This happened in high school...no point in getting into it here.

I should state this job has nothing to do with driving.

My question is, do you think this is something that will be over looked or am I going to be terminated before I even start? Should I just ask the company ?

Has anyone ever heard of appealing years later to have something removed from their abstract? (not that it deserves to be)

Tickets are removed after 3yrs from your abstract. So the one you got 5 years ago wont appear.

yes, but now they are asking for a drivers abstract, medical, drug screening. Obviously, if they see something they don't like in those, they can terminate me. Only thing I am worried about is this ticket.

*Yes it does appear, abstracts cover a minimum of 5 years.(for SK anyways) I have my abstract in front of me right now...

You don't have a choice. Just start praying that they don't care. Since it's quite old, perhaps they won't.

Do they ever get removed from your record completely? I have quite a few "young and dumb" tickets

It's a good thing you posted this thread when you already knew the answer.

^I guess I was hoping for some opinions from people who actually hire candidates based partly on driver abstracts.

I dont see it being a problem, its one ticket thats not even that bad from five years ago.
At my employment was ask for a abstract. We are looking for things like multiple dui's, vehicular homicide, anything that would cause a threat to the bussiness or you loosing your licenes.

I was under the impression that the drivers abstracts where purely for insurance reasons on the companies policy. Of course if you already signed a cintract, then it sounds like HR got a little ahead of themselves before having you take the screens.

Probably for insurance, and to make sure you license isnt suspended. Most companies here will hire you up until 6 demerits. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Fine. As I do not do drugs.

Seems like the consensus is not to worry about it, I should be fine.

Thanks for all the replies. I will be sure to post an update after my first day on the job.

I hire people daily based upon their driver's abstracts; it is a condition of employment as all of our equipment is truck mounted.

I look for a few simple things, as I realize not everyone is perfect:

Under 6 demerits in the last 3 years. We'll accept UP to 8, if they have never taken a GODI or Defensive Driving Course. Those courses will lower them below the 6 demerits, and we offer GODI as part of our Green Hand School Training.

--How they got to their 6 demerits is up to them.

Suspensions are on a case by case basis. Anything alcohol-related sends up an instant red flag, and will prevent a candidate from being brought on.

--Administrative suspensions (demerits, missing child support, etc) have to be explained by the candidate, and further information can be sought.

Your employer is likely asking for a drivings abstract because at some point in your employment, there exists the possibility for you to drive a company vehicle. If they ask about the speeding ticket, be candid and upfront about it. If they don't ask, don't worry about it.

Maybe depending on the company. I know my "young and dumb" tickets screwed me in my job search. Especially with a sask abstract, I've found it confuses a lot of people.
