Default 2012 Cochrane Image Auto Body Winter Rally

The first round of the Western Canada Rally Championship, the Cochrane Image Auto Body Winter Rally based out of Cochrane, Alberta is coming up!

This event is going to be one of the ones to definitely be at this year in the regional series. Low amounts of snowfall and warm weather will mean a mostly gravel rally with icy patches, guaranteed to be a high pucker factor event! On top of that, drivers from all over Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan will be competing in some serious equipment, teams like:

Max Riddle (winner of the 2011 WCRC, overall novice champion both regionally and in Canada nationally, open class 2005 STi)
    http://www.cscc.ab.ca/kananaskis/profiles.htm#maxriddle

Hardy Schmidtke (three time WCRC champion, competing in a new to him Evo 8.5)
    http://www.cscc.ab.ca/kananaskis/profiles.htm#hardyboy

Graham Bruce (3rd place overall in the 2011 WCRC, a beautifully prepped 2007 STi from the US)

J.C Bourgeois (a 2006 STi, immaculate prep work!)
    http://www.cscc.ab.ca/kananaskis/profiles.htm#neverlift

Johnny Summers (a JDM imported STi with a USDM drivetrain swap, beautiful build)
    http://johnnysummersracing.com/

All of these competitors have what it takes to be on the podium, with Max Riddle having a target squarely on his back after having won the championship last year.

    or the facebook page:

If you want to get in on the action, a great way is to volunteer! There are many placements that need to be filled, from manning chicanes to running start and finish controls. For more information, you can contact myself ([email protected]) or [email protected]

Is a competition license required, or just a CSCC membership?

When does ARCA hold their school/licensing this year, and where now that Race City is gone?

Hey Sentry, this should be considered "pro" rally, as in a full competition licence and vehicle modifications (such as a cage built to FIA specs) are required. This event does not deal with ARCA or Race City. If you haven't been, the CSCC runs some excellent rally-x programs which are a great way to get acquainted with the scene.

If you are interested in getting into rallying, some websites with good info are:

www.carsrally.ca (the national sanctioning body which overseas all rallying in Canada)

www.rallywest.com (the regional sanctioning body for SK, AB, and BC)

www.specialstage.com (a "north american" based rally forum, one of only a few that is not tailored to a specific club or organization)

Of course, you could also come out to a test day that is happening March 4th (also based out of Cochrane) to meet everyone/the teams, or even better volunteer at the event itself which is great exposure

Updated to the proper e-mail if anyone is interested in volunteering!

Only a bit over 2 weeks until the event, would love to see some Beyonders out. If the weather stays this nice, what could be better than watching rally cars ripping up the road on a nice winter's day?

Only a couple of days to go! 23 entries registered, this is closing in on a record of 25 back in 2007. This will be THE event to spectate or volunteer this year, supposed to be great weather on Sunday.

If you are interested in learning more about rallying in Western Canada, looking for news and season information, the best way to do this is to like RallyWest's facebook page!

    http://www.facebook.com/Rallywest

Press releases, event results, competitor information, season standings, and more can be found there or on our main website:

    www.rallywest.com

The next round of the Western Canada Rally Championship is also part of the national Canadian Rally Championship. Based out of the Stony Nakoda Casino and Resort west of Cochrane on Highway 1, the Rocky Mountain Rally will bring all of the big names from Canada out to play on the fast mountain roads! Watch for updates as May 25/26 gets closer
