Do you have a conduit in your wall, run the hdmi's behind the wall, have some sort of cabinet above the floor for your shaw box?

RF remote and a box in a closet, thats your only option pretty much. Monoprice sells wireless HDMI units which can get around the HDMI cable in wall issue if you can't run a physical cable.

RF is radio frequency rather than a standard infra red remote. RF goes through walls and has huge range. Thats what I'd use, then you only need to worry about the cable.

my motorola ccable box came with an infra red extension, probably about 4 meters long.

My PVR is pretty low and when I'm on my couch I can't see it, so I just ran the extension up to by my tv and the receiver has a glue pad on the back so I just stuck it to the corner of my tv. you cant notice it and it works great.
