Default I won the lottery, but I still want my welfare!

Amazing, this chick in the states won $1 million in the lottery, just over $500k after taxes and such. She also collects $200 from the state every month to buy groceries. She continues to keep getting the money saying it is ok, I don't have a job, It is hard for me to get by...

Yes she's a stupid cunt but it's not her fault - the system itself is broken. If she's "entitled" to it, why wouldn't she take it? It's the same as say getting laid off from your job and collecting EI, yet you've still got $500k in the bank. I'll best most people would do it.

I am not sure exactly what the deal is with food stamps but there needs to be a way to take into account any and all income earned during that period to determine eligibility. Seems to me like they are only looking at wages earned and/or job status.

    There is:

The department "relies on clients being forthcoming about their actual financial status.
See, just ask the typical honest welfare recipient.

I dunno. $500,000 doesn't seem like all that much anymore. $365 million for the biggest powerball lottery seems like a lot, although I can imagine in a few years there will be a Billion dollar winner.

IE: You are one of the 40% in California where your house is underwater. Say you've already put in $400,000 on an overvalued $800,000 mortgage, that is now underwater because the estimated value is under $350,000 and dropping quickly.

Put all the winnings into paying off the mortgage in one shot (with penalties). You are still left with a house that may be worth $250,000 next year and still have nothing left over for pizzas and coke. You still have to pay taxes and utilities every year.

I mean really, Rob Anders gets a base of $157,731 every year with expenses paid for, to sleep through the house of commons and make one speeche every two years or so that ends in "go stamps go". Many native chiefs make $300,000+ per year.

I don't think anyone would be complaining if she won $50,000 and paid off half of her student loan debt and her credit cards. Its just a matter of inflation/debt load.

    Inflation is a biotch.

Quit using the word "cunt" to describe her. Cunts are useful, clearly she is not.

Old joke from a long gone uncle, yes it was as crude and out of place at age fifteen as today.

So I stand corrected. I guess they do take all changes in income situations into consideration. The cunt's been busted:

This whole issue could be avoided by not paying people assistance money for food. Give them a card they can flash to grocery stores for free food. Reimburse the stores. That way people like this chick can't go and buy lottery tickets with money that is for food.

But... A good 30% of the 46 million food stamp recipients in the US have purchased discretionary suppliments - things like soda pop, chocolate bars, potato chips, etc.

I think she got caught up in "normal". The new normal in the US is take everything you can get because you can always print up more money and make other nations pay for it, so you might as well do it now, because its all ending soon. And since money is free, you might as well wait for someone else to figure out if you are eligible or not because its *too much effort* to stop receiving handouts.

It would be like expecting Rob Anders to stay awake, good luck with that.
