One of these overshot the runway in Gander a few years back, caused a fair amount of damaged to the landing gear. It was there for a few weeks while repairs were made. Was lucky enough to see it a few times, and it looked bigger then the Gander airport

    That's awesome...

The 225 would be a super rare spot, that thing was build specifically for the Soviet Buran space shuttle. It's a mother!

    Bought not built!

yeah good spot, theres one on the north end of 34/16 too iirc that not many ppl know about.

the only thing is there are those weirdos who document every type of A/C that lands with their little notebook, its like their fked up hobby or w/e.

I remember watching the 124 last year from the most north end classroom at SAIT aerospace, we pretty much watched it taxi to 34/16 until it took off, wasted a whole 2 hours of classtime then left home lol. Was an amazing sight to see this whale of an a/c take off at YYC instead of the everyday 727/737/757 etc and fedex MDs.

If the wind is out of the west, northwest or north (as it is most of the time), you can either catch the initial takeoff from the McKnight Blvd spotting site by the Mohawk.... or catch it after it leaves the ground just off Airport Trail... it depends what perspective you want.

Personally, I would prefer to see it get all smoky and loud up close on initial departure... so McKnight Blvd for sure (as long as the wind is W/NW/N).

lol... I don't note all the aircraft on paper, but I spend time around the airport with my camera every so often... there are hardcore weirdos around though... you're right about that.

Everyone has their hobby I guess. Some people probably think grown men talking on an Internet forum is weird too.

They also have their scanners on full blast too so they can imagine themselves sitting in the cockpit upon landing or departure...

..and, they are typically unfriendly assholes too... they glare at you like you're invading their turf or something.

Actually I work for a flight planning company. We used to be in the Esso Avitat building , but we moved our offices to Country Hills Landing and most of the time I haven't a clue what's happening at the airport.Instead of watching aircraft , I now watch golfers.
It's a lot quieter, but I miss seeing some of cool visitors Calgary Airport gets from time to time.

Here is a pic of some Antonovs that we used to transport cars for Gumball.. very cool planes. I got to spend a couple minutes walking through the planes, and the view from the cockpit was crazy (it is at the top of the plane, so you tower over everything else)

The take off and landing of these planes was pretty cool to watch. I heard that a Cessna got caught up behind one taking off in Calgary and it flipped over.

Default Aviation Enthusiasts!! - Sunday March 11

For any aviation enthusiasts out there this could be pretty special.

The Antonov An-225 is scheduled to land at YYC @12:15pm and depart same day at 6:15pm

This thing is the worlds heaviest aircraft and as far as I know the only one ever produced and in service.

Just thought a heads up for any of you who enjoy aviation events like myself would be in order.

Keep track of the Calgary airport twitter account @FlyYYC for any additional info or scheduling changes!

Well there are a couple places you can go.

If the plane is coming in from the south, you can go down to the spot off Mcknight and see it land:

If it comes in from the north then you would be able to see it turn off the runway from ^this spot.

Or you could go to this spot off Airport Trail if it comes in from the north.:

There is a 'Cell Phone' Parking lot there. You dont have to pay to park.

I will for sure be there
