Default Anyone here work for Telus (optik question)?

I was wondering if there are any installers/ engineers/ insiders that could tell me why a small section (about 4x3 blocks with me right in the middle) of my community can't get Optik internet or TV.

From what the call centre can tell me (not much) it's either because there are no ports available (it's NEVER been available since launch). Or that fibre hasn't been run.

Every time they just tell me to check back in a couple of months and it should be available.

They are pretty much right what they told you on the phone. When I was in the field I would be putting up Telus satellite a block down from a street with optik available to every house. If you are in a older area your lines might just be super old and they are working on it.

If you really want Telus you can sign up for satellite, then transfer to Optik then it comes available. You wont get screwed for leaving your term early either.

You can go 2 blocks in any direction from my house and get optik. I am in this isolated little square that seems to have been forgotten. I'm just trying to get an answer if it's even being looked at.

I have absolutely zero interest in Telus Sat TV. I already own 4 bell receivers and the only way I'd switch to telus is for Optik and its central PVR.

I was excited about Shaw's new Gateway offering until they told me they wouldn't offer rentals on the gateway stuff. Not interested in paying hundreds of dollars only to find out it sucks (like any other shaw offering I've tried).

As I said, 2 blocks and you get optik. 3 more blocks and you're at the switch. When ADSL first came out I was getting faster speeds than most people because I was so close to the switch.

If you live 3 Blocks from a SAC terminal the only reason you would not be able to get Optik at this moment is due to Port assignments, may only be so many VDSL/ADSL2+ ports available through that sac at the moment, that are all in use, or that sac may not carry any ports at all and only be a terminal to carry dail tone/ADSL to your house meaning its a CO port assignment and the distance is to far to qualify for the mininum 1 hd 2 sd aka 15 mb Internet.

As far as the twisted pair theory, every main feeder cable leaving the CO to the SAC to the Ped are all twisted pair and have been for years. Any line to house can be replaced, so thats definitley not the issue.

Where do you live? Newer/Older Area?
