cell phone switching newb question?

i've got a samsung 550 formally under virgin account, that i want to switch to my mobilicity use

it uses the same plastic card inside, but i don't know if simply swapping out the cards will make this work??

is it that simple?

but most likely it won't as i believe mobilicity runs on AWS frequencies the your phone won't use

so i need to unlock it first, but then it might not work either?

i'm not familiar with all the network types, i know my bell used to be different from other also

i'm being lazy today and not wanting to go out to the mobbilicity dealer

If you unlock your virgin phone, it'll only work on Rogers,Telus,Bell,Koodo,Fido.

As mentioned above Mobilicity uses different frequencies and won't work

It has to do with the technology in the phone, which receivers does your Virgin phone have? (Google it)
Then check which frequencies Mobilicity operates on and compare those to which ones can be picked up by the hardware in your phone. If they match....yes. If they don't.....no.

But to save you the Googling, the answer is no. Mobilicity only works with Wind phones and their own.

Not exactly, there are plenty of phones that work with mobilicity, I am using a Nokia lumia 710 from Rogers, which is unlocked on mobilicity, and my wift has the Nokia n8 from Rogers on mobilicity as well. Really if the phone supports the frequencies it will work once unlocked. EBay has cheap unlocks for just about anything, usually under 10 bucks.

If it's unlocked and you put in a sim card, it should automatically connect to the network. If it doesn't connect after a short period, it doesn't work.

The 550 will not work on Mobilicity that much I can guarantee.

http://www.canadagsm.ca/ sells a bunch of unlocked phones and each phone shows which provider it will work with with a nice provider logo. I never used them myself but remember some people linking to them, and thought the fact that they show who are all supported is kind of cool.

You need a phone that has AWS 1700mhz on it for Mobilicity. The nokia 710 that I have will works with all providers in Canada for example, so alot of the phones support multi frequencies, as does yours, but it just doesn't support 1700mhz. You are looking for HSDPA 1700 for mobilicity
