Default Suggestions for Self Catered Wedding Location

Tying the knot in the fall.... we would like to hire our own caterers, but most of the nice "Halls/Lodges" etc require you to use THERE caterers. I'm looking at a few of the cities community hall's, but wouldnt mind something a bit fancier. Budget for the venue is $1500 max. Just for a Saturday afternoon. Any suggestions? Would like to to have a large "hall" so you can do the banquet seating (8 people per round table sorta thing) with a head table and then a dance floor...

    Thanks Beyond

Number of people/guests would be really great additional information.

Hum, not exactly $1500 but for $1800 in 2008 I got married at the Canmore Nordic Center, but it included all the food (no alcohol) and we had 24 guests.

Are you wanting your own caterers more for the food selection or because you think it may be cheaper?

I have been to one at the cranston community center, was self catered and self boozed. I am not sure however if you need to be a member of the community or not, nor the price difference.

As for the amount of people there I think at the one I was at there was approx 50-70 people and it only used about half of their space roughly, there was also alot of room for a "dance floor" and also some between the doors and the tables.

I've checked out the Nordic Center. I want my own caterers for both, food selection and I think it will be cheaper.

I recently attended an event at the Rutland Park Community Centre (near Mount Royal). There were about 75 people or so and the chef said the kitchen & bar were fantastic for his catering needs. I have no idea on the cost though.

    Riverbend Community Centre

Large room can hold up to 120 people. You can rent out both rooms if you need more space. Recently renovated and managed by a very nice lady.

Definatley fits our budget, and on my list of places to scope out.

Queensland Community center. Id check it out on Google maps (for the street view) to see if you'd want to host it in there first, but its another idea. I know it certainly wouldn't be expensive. Its quite big and theres a playground behind it for the kids.
