I Don't Know What's Wrong With Office

This just started happening yesterday. I was using Word and Excel on Monday and it was working fine. Now, not so much.

I tried rebooting my computer, and I tried re-installing but I'm getting the same error message.

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."

I have no idea what that means.

if its win xp, go to windows explorer > tools > folder options. go to File types, find the file type (i.e .xls) and associate it with your excel program.

I get this message when I'm just trying to open a blank document. Like Start --> Microsoft Office --> Word/Excel

What OS are you running? What version of Office?

That's using a shoftcut to open it, it probably points to the wrong place. Go into Program Files in your File Explorer and click the EXE.

Office Professional Plus 2010

I was running Norton Antivirus, but I reformatted my computer about a month ago and couldn't find the stupid serial number.

And I'm using whatever link to open Excel that was installed when I installed it.

Okay, so it found a couple viruses. Deleted and cleaned.

Did you try what Mar posted, and do other programs open correctly?

No promises but Try the following ...

Step 1) Run As Administrator - CMD Prompt
type: sfc /scannow
Let it finish and reboot.

Step 2) Download and Install these files:
a. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
b. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
c. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
d. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
e. Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)

f) Adobe

f1) adobe acrobat reader
f2) adobe flash player
f3) adobe shockwave player

g) http://www.java.com


Step 3) Download and install your WindowsUpdates that are ready.

I also suggest running a virus scan from a bootable disk
