How do you tell if a Samsung Android LTE device is on the LTE network? I bought the Galaxy Note, got the LTE SIM and got the LTE data. but its still showing 4G... I am assuming 4G is just HSPA+... so what does the LTE icon looks like?

I was under the impression that anything over 3G is LTE? Correct me if I am wrong, I thought 4G would be considered LTE?
I am getting a Galaxy Note here soon, so will I have to go to Fido and ask for a special LTE sim to enable 4G and such on it?
Before I called to switch to the LTE data plan my Note was showing 4G... which I assume is HSPA+ (3.5G). That's why I am curious to know what LTE symbol is.
Yes, you will need a new LTE SIM card and a LTE Plan to get on the LTE network; if its available in the coverage area...
Hmm..I guess then you'd think it should say LTE or something along the lines on the top of the phone instead of 3G and what not.
Perhaps, someone more knowledgeable on the topic will chime in here soon enough.
It will say on the device at the top by the signal strength indicator.
3G = UMTS
H = HSPA
4G = HSPA+
LTE = LTE
Now this will vary somewhat depending on the carrier software. If you go into settings > about phone > status it will say mobile network type. Currently my phone (GNEX) says HSPAP: 15 and displays an H on the top. This is true HSPA+ and i could mod the ROM to say 4G if i like.
The Mobile network type will give you your true connection type.
I think only Rogers has LTE in the Calgary area at the moment. Not sure what the coverage is like though.
I think its stupid that the marketing people at Bell/Telus/Rogers have put into peoples heads that what we have now is '4G'. But what we really have is 3.5g...which is pretty much 3g just faster. I'm glad I don't work at the mobility providers where I would have to explain this to Joe Public
War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.
Nope. Both Telus and Bell has LTE coverage in Calgary.Originally posted by dino_martini

I am not sure about the Samsung devices. On the new iPad it will show the words 'LTE' instaed of the 3G. I saw a screen shot in mobilesyrup of a iPad on Rogers network.
