Home builder permit will cost you $100 - $150? Even with the permit, and getting installed by a Lennox technician, you're still saving quite a bit. At the end of the day i'm really happy with the install and my house is cool.
not sure on price but if i were you i'd get it done just to avoid any issues with insurance etc. if it is actually $150 you're still way below average cost for a 3 ton.

Here's pics of my install. Done by Lendrix. Around 4k+ tax for a 2 ton EL16XC1. Was pretty happy with them and would recommend at least getting a quote.

I had no idea that I can get a permit after the install

Who here has a portable AC in their place venting out of a casement style window? I just bought an AC for my condo and need to figure out how to set it up with these stupid windows. Anybody a handy person here, because I am certainly not.

Actually I’m not sure about that myself now that you mention it. Maybe someone else knows but if not I’d call 311 to ask

is it true that construction after nov 1 2016 require a 14.5 seer unit, 13 seer units are not allowed unless your homes built prior to that?
i've tried to find more information but i'm no expect on the interpretation of the regulation codes

yes i believe that is the case. Check out the code here:
    https://bildalberta.ca/wp-content/up...ed-Guide-1.pdf

page 42 says the performance requirement of an a/c is 14.5 SEER.

Anyone have a 2.5 ton Trane Xr14? Would like to hear your thoughts on the noise level. 72 decibels seems kinda noisy to me, but this is what's being recommend to me by w&j.

If you pull a homeowner permit, you can’t have a contractor work under it.

Trane XR14 is better than the Lennox entry ACX series, its the inbetween the Lennox ACX and XC series
I found W&J's quote to be very fair especially with the 10 year labor included

Got a great quote from W&J and the guy was nice.

Costco has a up to $1500 costco gift card back promo on right now for A/C, so going to get a quote from them and see, but most likely will be going w/ W&J.

My unit went in over the weekend and really happy with the way it went. Quick install and looks really clean, measured the sound level with one of the iphone apps (probably not 100% accurate) and came back with 60-63db.

Yeah I'd like to know this as well. I saw someone had glass or plastic with a cutout for the vent in it. Not sure how they made that.

Whats everyone opinion on brackets vs pad for their recent AC installs? I would prefer a foundation bracket for a cleaner install but want to know if the bracket will transmit vibrations into the house?

In theory it can. Pad should be quieter. No idea how much.
