Any recommendations on portable units?
I picked up a 10000 BTU box unit but it's way too big. Gonna sell it and try to get a portable AC unit that I can move between rooms.

How much does running an A/C add to the utility bill?
Let me know how the install goes. If all good, can you PM/Refer me that guy's detail? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Also curious. And what are you guys doing, just running A/C to bedroom by shutting other vents, or given-er in the house (first time AC owner..)This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I only set my cooling from 430-11 weekdays and 11-11 on weekends. It is like $20-25/mth extra but I have a smaller unit/house.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My guy told me not to go overboard with closing too many vents. Def close all basement vents in the summer and maybe up to 3 other ones, but don't do more than that since it could mess with the efficiency and in the worst case cause a freeze up or damage your unit. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Edit: Install was great and very clean. He explained everything and made it easy. I couldn't really test it out because i had to go to work, but he did my Brothers house and looks like he's really happy. The installer said to call him if there is any issues which there shouldn't be.

They were by far the cheapest quote out of all the ones I have. Action Furnace was the most expensive.
I had quotes from those two, Gavin, and Horizon Heating.
I ended up with Horizon.
Did he pull an electrical permit too for that price? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
So we just replaced our 11 year old system with a new one and I'll give you all one piece of advice. We previously had our condensing unit (the box that sits outside) mounted on angle iron brackets that were attached to the foundation just like the photos above. Every time the unit would kick on or off you could hear the thunk inside the house. Our new system is on a pad on the ground and I can't hear a damn thing. If you can avoid it, don't get the brackets. If you already have a bracket system, build a stand to go underneath the unit so you can eliminate the brackets. It's a world of difference.

He told me that we don't need to pull permit. He's a Lennox authorized installer. When you register the product online, his name will come up when you put in the serial/model number. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Uhhh...wat? Unless this thing has a cord and plugs into an existing outlet, you for sure need an electrical permit. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Anytime an electrical circuit is opened, or installed, you need an elctrical permit. Period. Its the home owners responsibility to ensure one is pulled. If that thing starts a fire, have fun getting insurance to cover you. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Home builder permit will cost you $100 - $150? Even with the permit, and getting installed by a Lennox technician, you're still saving quite a bit. At the end of the day i'm really happy with the install and my house is cool. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
