Air Conditioning for my house

^^^I have had mine for a few weeks now and am really liking it. I am not using it much though, just to cool when I get home from work for a few hours. They just need to come back and wire the humidifier into the nest and take back their winter cover

Builder won't throw in the AC. Lines are already roughed in on the deck area. They will do it for $2800.

Good or should I look somewhere else?

Are the lines and the coil installed? If so thats kind of high I would think.

It's for a 1300 sq ft place (not counting basement)

That looks decent. I assume that one box with the blank off contains the power cable that is run from the breaker. This setup takes away lots of the legwork. Is there an evaporator coil pre-installed into the furnace too? If so, that would take away a bunch more of the labour. Anyways, I wouldn't have the builder do it, find someone else. My guess is you could save about $500 in the end. Try getting some quotes.

Went for my walk-thru with the site supervisor. So yes the coils are in there.

I will call W&J (as recommended by a lot of people here) sometime to get them to do an estimate

That's good news. W&j sounds like a safe bet. Please share the quote and condenser size, I am interested in what they'll price it all at.

Had the AC going yesterday

Looks like I installed AC just in time. Gavin and Leon came by last week and looks like we're going to have a few warm days this week. Went with the slim model to keep a bit more room to walk down that side of the house. It barely sticks out beyond the side of my garage.

Only installed AC on the upstairs furnace and I'll just run the fan on the other furnace.

Install was great, they also raised my intake/exhaust pipes in the mechanical room so my server rack fits much better now.

If you install AC on only one furnace, how much do you upsize that one unit?
Like if you would normally need 2x 2 ton units, would you go with a single 3 ton unit or?

Side note, my current place has only one furnace, but man, I wish I got a slightly larger AC unit! Takes a hell of a long time to cool down in the evening, and it's only trying to drop the house one degree!

Yeah, mine was on for an hour and wasn't able to cool from 22 to 21. Never had an issue when it was hot last summer though.

Is there a thread for best window/portable unit?? My townhouse board doesn't allow outdoor units

Anybody used costco's Lennox's Air Conditioning ? It seems it has been contracted out to A1 chesney ? Anybody have used them before ?

Not sure what others do, but I just sized it to the furnace (1200 CFM so I got a 3 ton unit). I guess sizing it for a single furnace would depend on your house/exposure. I have blackout honeycomb blinds that block out most of the heat as well so I should be good. We'll see this week how it works.

Whatever you end up getting just make sure it's a 2 hose unit, otherwise it'll just be pulling hot air through the rest of your condo while cooling the one room.

Does anyone know if A&E HVAC is still around? I left them a voicemail and emails quite a while ago wanting to get some more furnace filters (the 4" kind) and never heard back.. so gave up and went to Home Depot.
