Default Having issue with charges to buyout contract (Bell)

I am buying out my cell phone contract to go to a different provider, and maybe I was misunderstood about the charges for buying out a contract but I would like to check something.

I was under the impression by reading online that the maximum charge for buying out your contract early is $400. Now Bell is telling my $600 (they are saying $400 for phone, $200 for contract) I told them about the $400 maximum, and they said no thats how it is, but they can "help me out" by dropping it to $500.

I have bought out smartphone contracts before, and never has it been more than $400.

Anyone recently buyout a smartphone contract, or have any suggestions?

    Thanks

Bell charges $20 times the months you have remaining + $100 for data but your right about the maximum $400... see how many months you have left and calculate your total, i suggest call back and talk to a different rep GL

Don't know about bell, but Rogers does a Data part separately as well. For example, to cancel for me it would have been $400 + $100, $400 was the max on the voice portion of the contract ($20 per month x month remaining up to $400 max) and $5 per month x month remaining on data up to $100 max). Perhaps bell has something similar as stated above.

Thanks for the info...so much for $400 only, now they throw the contract in there too. Oh well.

I know with telus it used to be $20x the amount of months remaining in the term, and if cancelled in the first year on smartphones, a $100 charge was applied for cancelling the data as well.

Now, it works that since the phone is subsidized, a portion of the month's bill is applied to that subsidy, depending on the phone. if you cancel early, I think you just pay something like $15 + what is left on your device subsidy.
