Are all Co-op gas grades still 0% ethanol?
    From their gas website:
    https://www.fcl.crs/our-business/energy

All Co-op gas is Top Tier certified, a premium standard backed by a consortium of automakers. Co-op gas aids in deposit removal, restores fuel mileage and engine performance while reducing harmful emissions. Regular and mid-grade gasolines are premium blends and may contain up to 10 per cent ethanol (E10)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Been wondering this for awhile, are there actually cars that run on mid-grade gas? Ive never come across one in all the cars I've driven.

The site covers a lot of areas. Calgary Coop specifically hasnt had ethanol for years.

I think the problem is I have never seen anything confirming that aside from people online insisting on it.

I thought ethanol was usually a good thing, helping to increase octane (i.e. Husky 94) to reduce knock and lowering ignition temperatures. Is that incorrect?

Shell 91 has no ethanol in it either according to the stickers on their pumps.

Ethanol improves performance but hurts mileage.

It only improves performance if your engine is tuned specifically for it, most cars are tuned for a lowest common denominator so as a general statement all it does is reduce mileage.

As far as I recall, they basically do the same as Shell. 10% on 87 and 0% on Premium.

This satisfies the federal 5% mandate.

I have no idea what happens in Ontario where they now have a 10% mandate. Do they have to put more ethanol into 89 to meet that requirement or not to keep premium ethanol free. But that's more of a Shell's problem as I don't think Co-Op gas goes into Ontario at all. May be @sabad66 can tell us.

Now if Calgary Co-Op has a nasty divorce from Federated Co-Op, I wonder if supplier will change.

    EDIT: Corrected by @killramos 10% on 87..... not 89. 89 is a mix of 87 and 91 50/50 at pump.

    Assume it’s 10% on the 87?

Most stations don’t have dedicated 89 tanks from what I understand ( 50/50 blend ).

Well, RFR expired in 2017/18 and I'm not sure what it's replace with. So he may be right.

Under RFR that comes in 2010 and expires in 2017/18

    https://www.canada.ca/en/environment...renewable.html
These regulations require fuel producers and importers to have an average renewable fuel content of at least 5% based on the volume of gasoline that they produce or import into Canada and of at least 2% based on the volume of diesel fuel and heating distillate oil that they produce or import into Canada.
So 5% ethanol is mandated to be legal in Canada. But I have very little connection to downstream industry since 2010, so info I retained is quite old.

    EDIT:

Looks RFR is extended to 2021 and to be replaced by proposed CFS in 2022

Producer is mandated, but not at the pump. Selling higher % ethanol to other companies, or just other Co-ops allowed Calgary to have zero ethanol.

As said though, the divorce might change that.

Well only people in that refinery knows. But why mix 3 blends when 2 will satisfy the law.

Hope @suntan 's water test come thru to end all the guessing.

I only use Co-Op premium and if ethanol gets into that, I'll probably notice right the way if they switch supplier.

that's a good question. My guess is that yes, they will have to have more than 10% ethanol in Regular in Ontario so that they can still maintain 0% in Premium while meeting the 10% average mandate. I highly doubt they would start adding ethanol to V-Power as that's one of the key selling points.

    I'll ask around.
