Default Small Machine Shop / Machinist?

We end up requiring small welding / machining jobs for a lot of our projects here at our shop. Problem is that the machine shops we generally deal with focus mostly on oilfield or tooling etc. and as such getting a small piece of metal tapped can sometimes run $200 - $300 (Humphry, Aaron etc.). I recently got charged $600.00 for 1.5 hours of cutting torch work - I am not Shell or Haliburton just blindly handing out purchase orders.

Most of the work we require is simple "weld a couple pieces of angle iron together", drill and tap some blocks etc.

Anyways so what I'm looking for more then anyting is either someone that has a small machine shop that will do small jobs or a "mobile machininst" that would be able to do this type of work in our shop (we have welders, taps, grinders etc.). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Ok will do...

Not looking for someone to do this as a "side job", but looking for someone that we can get an account setup with and use as a sub contractor.

Call Qsine, I used to work for them, their very good guys and can help you out. They don't charge stupid rates like $600 for 1.5hours of work either, that's insane.

i had problems with getting someone to machine some small adapters out of 4140 stainless.

I ended up having a shop in Vancouver make it for me (less than 1 week turnaround) for a fraction of the cost of having someone do it locally. Some of the local guys wouldn't even talk to me when they saw how "insignificant" the job was.

Let me know if you want their contact info.

TimG, I need someone that I can call and they will go to site (if necessary).

I'm not looking to be cheap, just looking for a smaller company that is a little more reasonable.

I pm'd gretz to see what he has to say and I can check out Qsine.

    Thanks b
