    HELL NO - the organizers complain that it's too difficult to get permits... although none of the other festivals in Calgary have a problem with this.

    BBQ on the bow sucks (unless you're actually competing, i suppose).

    Having been a competitor the last couple of years it's really more for the people cooking then the spectators.

    Teams do mingle on the Saturday night and share some food and beer but as mentioned before we are not allowed to give anything away to the public. It sucks but at least last year we could "donate" some of our food to one general tent that was allowed to give it away but that didn't last long.

    There's always lots of people milling around and 2 years ago I even had people cross the rope right into my pit and start snacking on my food.

    But that said it's a great weekend and i look forward to it every year. It's fun to chat with some of the competitors and I've made a few friends.

    My specialty is Brisket and Chicken as well as a few other things that will be appearing in chef's challenge this year.

    BBQ on the Bow would have a better reputation among the general public if it promoted itself as a competition (which it is) instead of claiming it's a festival (which it's not).

    There really isn't anything for the general public to do there, which is why just about 100% of them are disappointed.

    FixedGear,

    Although you are correct it is primarily geared towards the competitor, over the last couple of years, I have found it absolutely incredible to talk and learn from the various teams. I've picked up more tips and tricks here than anywhere else. Yes, as a spectator you cannot test the food, however if your a Beyond moderator and you come to the Beyond BBQ tent, then perhaps thats another story

    I don't care about chicken and ribs somebody has to do brisket.
    Shit me i wasted 15lbs and it came out like shoe leather.

    We have to get a date so we can do a practice run.
    Maybe 20 beyonders to judge our quality of food.
    I have a sponser for aprons i need a pic,gif,jpg for the printing.

    Its gonna be a blast. We appreciate the support from the Beyond crew. I'm personally picking up the entry cost as well as have my business sponsor the cost of meat. Beyond has generously offered us the use of their 10x20 Tent, however we might not be allowed a tent bigger than 10x10. I know a few other members have offered us support.

    If anyone has any ideas to make the Beyond BBQ tent bumping, please let me know. I would love to see us have a DJ booth.

    Also, we might need 1 or 2 volunteers to man our BBQ tent during the actual competition if we step away. You will be compensated with the most delicious BBQ ever.

    Thanks for the support, this is going to be a fun competition.

    I will be doing the pulled pork, just happy I am not doing the ribs, i never get those to turn out right.

    I don't mind doing the brisket either, Those have turned out pretty well for me in the past.

    I am totally down for doing a Beyond practice run though.

    Gotta say I am getting pretty excited about doing this, and representing beyond!

    The Bacon explosion is my favorite thing to do but for chefs challenge you can't use any ground meat.

    I did up two big ones last year and shared them around for dinner on the Saturday night and everyone loved it. Even the Texans!
    I've been working on a variation that passes the rules for chefs challenge for this years competition.

    But since I'm running another team you'll all just have to wait and see.

    it is not "no ground meat" but according to their website:

    Anything except ground beef or shellfish.
