Default Parts washer cleaning solution, what do you use?

Bought a parts washer a few weeks ago, went over to CTire and bought some enviro friendly parts cleaner, figured I'd be using a lot of fluid and might as well try to be somewhat green. The stuff ended up leaving some 'scum' on the part I washed. Not oxidation luckily (its an aluminum part) but just kind of a residue.

I'm looking for something safe on aluminum (preferably non flammable but i havent really found much yet). I've been doing some reading and saw zep 0455 citrus cleaner recommended for aluminum. Hoping this will be able to power through some of the residue. Any other ideas or experience with this zep stuff??

Castrol Super Clean is a water based cleaner. I used it with my parts washer with good results.

ah, I keep forgetting about this, I used to use this all the time. only thing I found with it is that it could be a tad stronger.

Always used Varsol, it's cheap and it always does a great job. Pretty sure it was the industry standard for years until everybody started coming out with different solutions.

On another note, wasn't it you that got all the auto paint off me in Huntington years back and flaked out never coming back to pay me for it.

?????? I'm no low life 'scum' like that. You have the wrong guy and I would appreciate that you double check before accusing me of something like that.... Honest mistake I'm sure but a pm would have been more appropriate....

Anyways I would rather not use varsol, or anything super fumey and with a low flashpoint, thanks for the suggestion though.

    Edit:
just did a quick search are you confusing my username with 88jbody from the thread below, I'm not accusing jbody like you did me but the thread fits the description....

If you use Varsol put gloves on, it's a mutagen.

Sorry it was nothing serious, wasn't trying to accuse you of being scum your name just triggered a memory as I was responding. Apparently my memory seems to be slipping with age.
It was only a hundred bucks or something like that and you're right it was 88jbody. My laziness tends to keep me away from the search button more often than not.

Yea good point. I might have to just go with a varsol to finish this part or something. The part itself is very clean now but unfortunately super clean left a residue as well, I'm not too concerned as this part is going back on an old motor but I'd rather not pump that residue through the oiling system if I don't have to. I am pretty certain it won't hurt anything as I plan on changing the oil every 100kms or so until I'm confident the motor is clean of any gunk that may be still trapped in the oil passage ways as the more has sat for a while and there was some sludge in the pan.

The only reason I was trying to stray away from the good cleaners is that I am renting and don't want to use flammable/fumey substances out of respect for the landlord and their property.
