Is this going to come with an actual proper manual gearbox that includes a clutch pedal or more of this flappy paddle tiptronic nonsense?
You actually WANT slower shifts?

If this comes to Canada this could easily be my first Benz

Sorry, chief. I think the slushbox is going to be non-existent in the AMG's.

AB article mentions ~370hp

Expensive maintenance is a myth with MB. It's cheap if you DIY. Only downside is you don't qualify for extended warranty.Originally posted by msommers

AMG gets expensive with the specific oil thats only available at the dealership, each oil change is like $140 in oil alone at retail price, and it's tough to find any dealership selling it at a discount. Brakes are also expensive with AMG but they last about 100k with street only use and about 50k with mixed street and track use.
Everything else is as cheap as your average Japanese brand.

Looks like me next car!!!! Perfect for Calgary, hopefully they'll bring it over.
What type of oil is required though? What makes it so special that it has to be purchased through MB?Originally posted by rage2

Ditto. I was going to get some Castrol 5W-30 from Costco and bring it to an independent shop for an oil change! Good thing I came across this.Originally posted by spikers

The 6.2L V8 has only 1 approved oil, Mobil 1 Formula M 5W40.
The rest of the AMG engines has only 1 approved oil, Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W40.
SLR engine has only 1 approved oil, Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W50.
The picky engine would be the 6.2L V8 '63 motor. AMG changed the spec from 0W40 to 5W40 in 2008 to reduce lifter wear at startup. MB is pretty picky about oil when it comes to warranty claims. Not that there are a lot of problems, but if you do, and you get voided because you used the wrong oil, that would suck.
For other engines (exception SLR), I wouldn't worry as much, but I don't have any data to back that up.
Somehow in Canada, only the MB dealerships carry the oils.

You can get 0W40 at canuk tire.
I have 20L of it that is useless due to the change over to 5w40.
What contributes to the big expense of oil changes is not just the cost of Synthetic. It is also the fact that MB (and BMW) put 8-10 litres on the stuff in the oil pan. Unlike Japanese brands, being down 1 litre of oil is 20-25 of the oil in your engine.

Of course it's cheaper if you do it yourself! And even then something simple like an oil change isn't really cheap at $140. I put just over 6 litres of Toyota synthetic plus a TRD oil filter in my 4runner and do it myself. Cost is ~$55.Originally posted by rage2

As for MB and Japanese parts, well I personally have no experience but for random items like a fuel pump, coil pack, window switch...these items are all about the same as some Jap brands? MB owners I know were just really surprised by the maintenance costs.

That's only for AMGs. Non AMGs have a variety of approved oils that are much cheaper.Originally posted by msommers

Compared to japanese it's similar. Domestic brands are cheaper though. It's how much the brands mark things up. When MB and Chrysler were 1 company, they shared a lot of parts, and you could go to Chrysler and get the same part for 30% less.Originally posted by msommers

I'm assuming the oil change Interval in these motor's are in line with modern engines at 8-10k?
How is this more expensive than say Doing synthetic oil changes on a 302 Ford at 3-5k intervals in the 90's?

Might the AMG special oil be a better buy if one brought it over from the USA? Montana is not that far, most of us go there at least once a year.
I have an interest in this car as well, Beyond group buy??
Not AMG... but a new A-class video
I'm kinda disappointed that it can barely outrun 2 dogs...
That diamond grill has to go IMO.
