Buffalo got a better deal for Paul Gaustad. Days like this make me happy we have tambo running the show up here.
A month ago, neither of these players were, according to the Penguins organization, in their top 10 prospects. One of them can just not sign with the Flames this summer and go wherever he wants to.
If the Flames keep their current position for the draft, and the Penguins win the Stanley Cup, the pick we got will be a mere six spots before our 2nd Round pick (which was traded to Montreal).
Don't try to sugarcoat this. This would be like the Flames trading Matt DeBlouw, Turner Elson and a late 1st Rounder for Iginla. It is a crap package but the hands were tied. Even though Iginla gave his list of four, they let him cut it down to one despite a better deal being on the table.
iggy and crosby so sick

honestly, I couldn't give a rats ass about the prospects we got back.
mainly, I am happy that this trade gives Iggy the best chance to win the cup.
This trade was not going to give us a future superstar or "face of our franchise", no matter what team he went to.

Yo
has anyone remember the statistic that majority of the cup winner have a Canadian acting as captain on their team?
Being superstitious, maybe some one in Pittsburgh management realized that adding Brenden Morrow (former Captain and a canadian) and now Jarome Iginla (also former Captain and a canadian)
will further enhance if not solidify their chances for the cup run. I dont recall a year where a team would have this type of 'sure win' atmposhere since the days of Colorado and Detroit.
can we say Chi, Ana, Bos, Pit final four?

I know first round picks are important, but what good is it when it's prettymuch Guaranteed to be 30th overall lol.

We should all be lucky we were able to hold onto and watch Iginla for as long as we did given our mediocre playoff performances year after year.

It essentially replaces the very high 2nd Rounder that we traded away in the Cammalleri trade.Originally posted by DeleriousZ

i have a feeling they are going to trade both their first round picks for a top 3 pick
This trade needs to be looked at for what it is.
This isnt like Calgary traded a 28yr old Iginla with 5 years left on a nice contract.
This was Calgary trading a 35yr old Iginla who was going to play 17 more games in the Flames uniform for 2 B level prospects and a 1st round pick that in this deep draft could bring an A level prospect.
So coles notes
Calgary gives up:
Iginla for 17 games
Gets
Big Mobile Dman who will probably be a #4 guy.
Gifted but small Center who will probably be a 3rd liner fringe 2nd.
1st Round pick (most likely 30th Overall)
This trade was different on many levels, the main one being Iginla was given the choice of what team he wanted to go to regardless of the offer. That was a stipulation of him waiving the NTC. Additionally this was a rental in every aspect of the word as like I posted above because Calgary had 17 more games with Iginla in a flames jersey and then would most likely have lost him for nothing.
IMO great return for 17 games of Iginla.

considering it is a deep draft, I dont think 30th pick would be a bad spot either. It all depends on what was picked and what werent.Originally posted by DeleriousZ

With 2 first rounder in hand, Flames may have the option to trade up or down if you know what I mean

Let's be realistic here. As much as I love Iggy what did people think we could get for him.
35 Year old superstar who's best days are behind him and clearly has lost a step compared to his previous years on an expiring contract.
I was hoping for a D prospect like Pouliot, Dumoulin or Matta though.
Those were the prospects Boston was going to send over. We got 2 B level left wingers from PittsOriginally posted by Kavy

Just boobs. That's how we party.
Sucks that Iggy's is gone, but wasn't the asking price a 1st + NHL-ready + prospect all along? This was exactly that, one kid's in his junior year, the other is in his senior. A first is a first, it's something we can use if we want to combine with our other picks and trade up.
I like the players coming back from the Boston deal, but that conditional pick was a lowball. I'm glad Iggy didn't waive to go to Boston.
This guys hilarious!

I thought one of the comments on the radio said given Jarome's age, the return was actually good.
I hope they win the cup so Jarome can come back. Thats a win for everybody
