Yeah, I'm definitely not saying I'm siding with Bettman and the owners, but I get the impression Fehr had it in his head he could outsmart Bettman and force him into a bad position. The NHL were saying they were ready to talk as far back as February or March and the NHLPA did jack all.

On the other hand, I think it's bullshit how owners are trying to get out of honouring contracts they made. I wonder how many of those crazy long term contracts were made with the idea in the back of their minds that the CBA was expiring soon and they could get the players to take a cut.

    This.

The owners didn't make their billions off of owning hockey teams, they usually do it because they love hockey or something like that. They don't need the team playing to survive. They can go as long as they need between hockey being played.

The players on the other hand, are facing a few different things.

    1. Age. The players have a limited lifespan for their hockey careers. Every year that passes is another year less for them to earn the crazy amount of income they do.

    2. Income. No work, no monies. Hard to pay off that 10m house you just bought when your income goes from 5m/year to 0.

From the sounds of it, the owners are more than happy to sit it out and wait for the players to crack, just like they did in 2005.

If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

Well, that's just another bargaining issue. They know they're going to have to honour the existing contracts, but by starting out with "No we won't" they're making a "compromise" when they eventually do. Unless I misread, their latest offer included a provision where all existing contracts would be paid in full by the end of the contract.

Article that raises a point that I kinda forgot about. This year is gone, which means players that signed one year contracts (Jagr and Semin come to mind) have a good chance of not playing for the teams they signed with.

I was kind of excited to see Jagr in a Stars jersey despite the fact he was overpaid. Instead, he might retire or move to the KHL and we'll never see him play again.

I have a feeling that Tim Thomas might not be back either.

I bet the Bruins have no problem with Tom Thomas not coming back. He was starting to become a pain in the ass.

On the other hand, I was really hoping to go down to California this year and watch Teemu play, but if this season is completely cancelled he'll probably just hang up his skates for good.

Welcome back all the fanboys & bandwagon jumpers that seem to appear on beyond and know nothing abooooot hockey. Thank you to the real hockey fans who have been following other hockey since the lock out and know the game.

This is why people fight with you on the internet.

Now, I want everybody to think about just how mind blowingly hilarious it will be if Vancouver wins the Cup this year.

I can only hope that all the people I've heard say they'll never go to another game stick to their word so I can finally get season tickets.

Because I am being honest? I don't mind people arguing with me on the internet....the majority of the time I am right and people can't back up their arguments.

95% of posters that show up in hockey threads on beyond have never played hockey and don't actually understand the game. Kind of like a guy buying an 86' corolla because he is a fanboy and its "cool" yet knows nothing about the car.

Real hockey fans would have been following the farm teams, european teams, wj's, Spengler cup because they love hockey.

Let me say there is nothing wrong with being a bandwagon hockey fan...without you guys there wouldn't be any revenue to be fighting over.
