Default Recieved Invoice From City Of Calgary

I recently received a invoice from the township for $6000 bill for a diesel spill that was very little under 4liters) Either way fire trucks etc billed out at $6000.

I already paid the traffic fine, and now this.

Now the vehicle was being sold at the time, so what i need to know is the responsability with the owner or the driver on that day?

This invoice I'm guessing is going to go to collections if i dont pay it in my name???

I called a lawyer and there's mixed awnsers whether I could jusy say its the new owners truck so let them take the blame. etc.

Either way the invoice is in the myname. I never owned the vehicle on that day.

Yeah, stick the 6000 dollar bill with someone who had nothing to do with it. You're a real winner.

Wait... you paid the earlier ticket but now you want to switch the blame? Why did you pay the ticket if this wasn't your truck like you say?

Appealing an invoice from Animal & Bylaw Services
If you have received an invoice from The City of Calgary Animal & Bylaw Services for a bylaw infraction (i.e. snow and ice removal, clean-up of waste or an unsightly premise, removal of material from a street or alleyway, removal of graffiti, grass or weed removal or tree/shrub trimming), and would like to appeal the invoice please review the information below before submitting your appeal.
If you would like more information about bylaws, please refer to Bylaws by topic or Bylaws by name.
    When to contact 3-1-1
Please contact 3-1-1 (from within Calgary) or 403-268-CITY (from outside of Calgary) before submitting this form if:
You do not have a copy of the invoice and would like to request one.
You have general questions about appealing an invoice from Animal & Bylaw Services.
    When to submit an appeal

You may submit an appeal if you meet the following criteria:
You are appealing the invoice within 14 days of the invoice date (listed in the upper right hand corner of the invoice). Please reference this example of an invoice.
You are the registered property owner (tenants can not submit an appeal).
The property address and roll number listed on the invoice is the actual service location where the corrective action was taken.
You have a copy of the Animal & Bylaw Services invoice. Without this invoice you will not have enough information to submit an appeal. Please reference this example invoice which demonstrates the information you will be required to provide (highlighted in yellow).

When they are the result of a brilliant individual wasting their time.
I'm willing to bet OP stuck his gas cap in the nozzle and left it unattended.

How the hell else do you spill "very little under" 4 liters of fuel?

"Thanks for buying my truck, oh and enjoy the $6k bill."
Only thing that could make this better is if he racked up some photo radar tickets for the new owner too.

WOW, 2Blue you deserve a ban for this. Creating a thread misleading everyone by claiming some "residue in the box" complete BS and now that "residue" is 4 liters of diesel!

Pay up man simple as that 6k is a slap on the wrist as far as I'm concerned.

My friend had a oil drain plug fall come loose a couple years ago on Glenmore, pulled over quick, 4-4.5 L oil on the ground, fire trucks came, cleaned it up, well my friend and I both grabbed brooms and helped sweep up the absorbent. No bill.

I'm sure they seen some negligence to issue a bill, and I don't think the actual volume more the actual affected area and amount of work to clean it up

Pretty dissappointing that you would try and stick the new owner with the bill. Society really is becoming a shit hole when people can't take responsibility for their actions.

The most important lesson I learned in life from some great mentors is to not only take credit for your success's, but ALWAYS take responsibility for your failures.

Hopefully you will rethink your stance and just deal with what clearly is your fault.

So many I am not even sure the OP should be allowed outside on his own.

    - City of Calgary
    - A bill from the Township
    - Happened in Airdrie
    - Selling the truck
    - Friends truck
    - I was driving
    - We just parked it there
    - Where I Live: Calgary
    - I don't live in the province so I don't want any issues

To clarify, I got a letter from city of calgary , and papers from airdrie. Yes truck was sold to a friend. Truck wasn't being driven but was parked. The 4 liters of fuel was estimates on the 4 page letter i got from the city. I still belive there wasn't that much but whatever. The new owner of the vehicle knows about this as he's my old neighbor. He's actually saying tell the city he owned the vehicle that way the lawyers can say he was never served. I'm not doing it behind his back at all. He's all game to fight with the city and so am I.

The ticket issued for the spill on that day it was not the regestered owner of the vehicle.

Does anyone know of a great civil litigation lawyer? I was told bennett jones has some of the best in the country. Is there a way to look up a lawyers performance of some kind? Much rather $6k go to a lawyer.
Sometimes you have to take a chance, whether that be on someone, or something!
