If you open the panel front door...you can see exactly which wire is going to the breaker that's tripping, and it will show on the jacket what gauge it is. It's most likely 14 GA and you don't want to be putting no 20A breakers on that as others have mentioned. 12GA required for 20A. Find another plug for space heater, even plugs in same room could be on different breakers and could safely solve your problem. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Generally sounds like it's working as intended. Is this the only time it trips or even if you have just one of those devices plugged in? Will it reset properly? Any odors when it trips? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There is a chance the circuit breaker is faulty, but my gut feeling is the older house was wired a bit strangely and it's going to be hard to work around this. Amperage and length of wiring dictates wire gauge requirements, I'm sure there's plenty of charts online but standard these days for 99% of homes is 14ga solid copper (excluding appliances).
Something I've been meaning to do is get one of those circuit testers so I can more easily determine which switches/plugs on are what circuit and label things properly - my wife had a good suggestion which was to sharpie the inside of the plug/switch faceplate with the circuit breaker number/letter. Clever!
