You can also rent one of the gas powered pressure washers if you want to strip it more throughly, if you get the right tip those things will cut wood. So, go crazy but not too crazy.

To restain it, I'll need to sand + pressure wash?
Ultracrepidarian
Pressure wash first, sand second. Water will raise the grain and make the wood fuzzy, sanding will then smooth it all over. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Has anyone installed wheel wall hooks to hang up extra wheels? I want something that will sit flat against the wall. Do they work? are they strong enough to hold up the wheels? Any suggestions on a good set or can these be ordered on Amazon?
We did this for my buddy's garage. For torsion purposes, the rims are always face to the wall, rather than shown in your picture. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
We bought the hooks from Princess Auto, installed with a impact driver right into the studs. The bolts that it comes with are garbage for shear-force and we snapped half of them with the impact gun. Definitely get some upgraded fasteners.
I’d love a set of those that would work with slatwall. I change up my garage layout all the time so it’s nice to try things out.

I have these. I used them at my old place and they worked great. I got a new set when we moved and they are still great. Easy to install, wheels sit flush to the wall and clear up floor space in the garage.
Edit: Sorry, didn't see that they are out of stock on Amazon.
Also, these held 18" steel wheels and winter tires for my wife's Murano and had no issues.

Need a mech eng to calculate the bending moment on those. My wheels are fucking heavy but I also want to put some up.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I think the metal core slatwall should be able to accommodate, at least on paper. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I use these exact ones to hold my F150 wheels and tires for years now. No issues. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I"ve emailed the company to see when they are getting more stock. Was the post bare steel or did it have some type of vinyl coating to protect the wheels? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Here's my setup. I used the cheap-o Princess Auto hooks (pack of 4 for ~$20) and used lag bolts (~$1 each x8) instead of the expansion bolts they come with. Bolted into the studs of course. Hooks are oriented facing down since the "uptick" doesn't accommodate the width of the wheels. Have had them hung up like so for 5+ years no problem. That said, rim & tire weighs just under 50lbs, so YMMV for truck/SUV wheel sets.
(Don't mind the missing wheel weight...)

There is a black coating on them, but it's not vinyl. My wheels haven't been damaged by these so far. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Summer set is 20" and winter set is 17".This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I run stock size tires for the summer.
I think I have the same ones. Hold the wife's 24 inch summers and 20 inch winters just fine. Needed new fasteners since ones provided are trash like mentioned above....referance my garage build thread to see them in action. I hang the summers through the center bore and the winters on the barrel. No issues with eitherThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Please be kind as this took me all fucking day but I built the platform around the tub. I had to leave an opening around the tub to access the covered sides just incase so I built a removable platform to cover the opening and covered it with composite fascia board. I would've loved to do a mitered corner or an angle corner instead of what I did but these things were $180 a piece and I chickened out.
