Windsor plywood is pretty good but sometimes a tad more expensive than Home Depot

Yes, Windsor Plywood is a good recommendation. Even Rona, with absolute shitty service has better lumber than Home Depot. Go with Windsor Plywood.

Lumber King. Prices similar to box stores, except better quality wood, and you park right next to the pile. And they help pick straight ones and load them.

+1 for lumber king or Timber Town if you're south.

Cedar shop is priciest but has the best grading of cedar if that's what you're after.

Double R Building Products. You go into their office, tell them what you want, and then drive into their yard and they load up your car with it. They do selection for you, so that's the only negative, but it's generally good lumber and I think you can just reject what you don't like. I framed all the interior walls of my new house from that place. When I placed the order, the price was about 50% off that at Home Depot. Home Depot is a MASSIVE RIPOFF for basically anything as I learned during my build journey, but it sure is convenient, and hence I still shop there for small things. For larger orders those other places can't be beat.

Home Depot is a good place for “I need this right now today or the project is delayed”. Particularly for brand name stuff that is the same as you could get anywhere.

Its often not the place you go if you have any semblance of time to do better

I swear most of their money is made just from being open when other stores aren't (ie Sundays)

When i did my deck i did lumber king and had them deliver. Nice to have it show up on your driveway vs having to haul that much wood. The quality was great.

+1 for Lumber King. Always been a quality product from them at the same prices. Their hours are kind of crappy though, real traditional hours there.
