I have to admit. That feeling of self satisfaction I get from passing 40+ cars that are lined up on Memorial east in the lane that leads to the Deerfoot North turnoff, then merging across just before the intersection without ever having to touch the brake is great. Thinking to myself the whole time "eat my dust suckers!"... It *always* cheers me up, especially when there's a good tune on at the same time.

And yet, I always manage to merge between the mindless drones without issue on the dotted white line. I'm sure some of them wake out of their apathetic self involvement to notice what I've done, but by then it's far too late for their impotent rage to have any outlet, and I get even more satisfaction from knowing that they'll have to simply stew in their own bile for the entire trip home.

That's what this new suggestion is.. bile from the impotent rage of the mindless drones that populate our roads, in that brief moment of impotent rage tinted awareness.

It isn't going to matter if there's a whole bunch more of solid white lines painted all over the city or if the police enforce a 'no lane cutting' law for these solid white lines as there'll still be those that'll have no problem crossing over a solid white line or pushing the limit legally and punching in at the last moment over a dashed white line.

As long as there's clueless idiots on our roads, there'll be those that'll take advantage of those same idiots - such is life. All I know is that I'm not one of those clueless idiots nor am I one of those that takes advantage of those clueless idiots - as such, you will not be cutting in front of me in any sort of fashion that will resemble a safe move/lane change nor will you see me sailing up in that other lane looking for that elusive gap.
    Will fuck off, again.

Another law? Are we really becoming so pathetic that we need a law for fucking everything?

It's simple, if you don't want people to do it.... DON'T LET THEM IN!

Jesus christ... it's like Albertan's are becoming incapable of taking care of their own life problems and they need momma Redford to protect them.

    Couldn't agree more.

People don't seem to realize that stop and go traffic only gets worse when you don't allow it to flow. Not allowing people to merge just gives people a reason to get mad and make dumb moves which usually slow traffic further.

"Hey that guy cut me off, I had to brake!" Maybe if you left space, they could have merged with the flow and you'd still be rolling.....

It's like people stopping at a free-flow lane IMO.

This man. Canadians are privileged pansy sissy drivers.

Too many nanny laws, too many people concerned with what everyone else is doing.

Pretty well the rest of the world, someone changing lanes with the flow, literally inches from your bumper is not only accepted, but expected.

    Don't be such whining bitches.

First of all this is from an article coming from the US, so just calm yourself.

I actually have no problem with this at all, and good for you for shaving off minutes on your commute BUT have you ever missed an opportunity and had to cross lanes after the light or had to slow your lane down in order to get in? The former I support, the latter should be a ticket.

What also gets me are the people that move from a slow moving lane into a merge lane that ends 500 meters down the road and jam themselves back into a line thats already not moving. That also should be a ticket.

    Why?

quit driving then, and make room for people who can.

My comments were aimed at the bafoons in this thread advocating more laws. Not interested in what ass backwards nazi state the law is proposed in.

How about the big arrow painted on the road thats pointed in a right to left configuration. Maybe they need to make it bigger for some people.

If you don't drive Memorial frequently you wont know where it starts to back up. Last time I went on memorial that shit was backed up and assholes wouldn't let me in the lane so I had go to Barlow instead.

When people stopped using common sense and courtesy (along with enforcing it with their kids) is when we started to make every little thing law.

I would love to see a law ticketing people that chew with their mouths open and fail to give their seat on the bus to women and seniors.

The left lane going onto deerfoot gets backed up, many people jump into the right lane which is a merge lane just to skip a few cars. Notice the arrow on the road?

As has been said before, cutting across a solid line should be a ticket, dotted line should be okay.

Letting people in a dotted line situation is preference. If people feel like being aggressive and blocking you, live with it, if people are going to let you in, that's fine.

    Absolutely not!
The last thing we need is another lame excuse to issue tickets!
Tickets should only be issued for things that could be dangerous, not annoyances.

At Memorial, the a-holes are pretty easy to spot, it usually says Checker, Associated or BMW on the car.

Fuck I hate when people do this.

That and ride the merge lane waaaaay too long just to get ahead (making a gap for themselves).

Best thing I ever saw was some civic rushing his way from McKnight onto Deerfoot South. Guy waited till the end to merge but was now way into the shoulder trying to pass a truck. Truck turned to the right just a bit and opened the civics panels up like a tin can. Completely deserved.

Maybe its just annoying when people who can't drive do it? I never, ever, have any issues passing stopped traffic and finding something beige to get in front of when they spend 10 seconds thinking about moving once the vehicle in front of them has moved 10 feet already. And I agree with the person who posted earlier..I LOVE passing traffic then easily getting into the lanes before the merge/turnoff ends.
