I was gonna go do my two drysuit open water dives at Two Jack but my instructor came back from there this weekend and said he couldn't even see his hand in front of his face so we ended up doing it at Lake Sundance this morning. Even that sucked.

En Route to Seattle right now with Calgary's Alex Lee for Formula Drift Pro this weekend!!
Dyno'd 480WHP + 440TQ on basemap tune 94 octane yesterday.
yeah, we did them in Chapparal a couple weeks ago now, the vis was ok then (about 15ft), right now Chapparal is down to about 5 feet of vis due to an algae bloom, Minni just hasn't cleared up yet this year. The lake is finally up to it's normal depth, and it's slowly clearing, but it's really rare that it's this late in the season and still not clear. It is up to 50 degrees though (which was a bonus since my dive partner forgot his hood)Originally posted by D'z Nutz

We're starting to lean towards diving the Gertrude in Waterton this weekend...Diving Nanimo on August 10th, hoping for a good few dives out there...

I did my drysuit last weekend at Lake Chapparall, visibility was maybe 10ft. Disappointed we ended up there as we were originally scheduled for Lake Minnewanka but vis was so bad we had to change things up last minute. Drysuit wasn't too hard for me but definitely took some getting used to, mostly the huge suction in the crotch. Gearing up on a hot day is something else too!

I recently received a 105mm nikkor macro for my bday, it goes go f 57 at 1:1 and to get everything in focus you need a macro rail and use image stacking in photoshop to combine the images.Originally posted by msommers
Where did you go diving, Steve? How was it? More details!
Getting the hang of micro, but nailing the focus point is going to be my biggest hurdle coupled with unpredictable bugs and crawly things.
That's great info, thank you! I actually had to google what all of that meant. I have a lot to learn Also noticed my ballhead is frigging terrible for macro.

If you're getting a squeeze from the suit anywhere you're not doing it right or your suit doesn't fit right. My biggest problem is I like to swim in a head down position, so I'm constantly getting air in my legs/feet.Originally posted by msommers

I dove with a Pinnacle suit for my course, a White's at forget me not last week and a Hollis at Minni yesterday...by far my favorite was the White's...it's much more comfortable than the others, and the air space is smaller, so it doesn't feel like you're wearing a giant airbag.
It is definitely warmer when gearing up, I dove dry at Minni yesterday, but I ordered in a 7mm wetsuit a week ago and it came in today, so I will be diving wet this weekend, and I'll be diving wet in Nanimo. 50 degrees is more than warm enough to go wet. Hell I dove forget me not pond at 41 degrees wet.

Damn you're braver than I am. I'd have to rent a thick wetsuit and try it before laying down the big bucks for something like that. I still get a squeeze after filling in more air but it lessens a bit once I get horizontal. Definitely prefer a wetsuit but there's some sweet stuff to see in cold water and I doubt my body can handle it. I'm a pretty big nancy when it comes to being cold!

I just googled it myself on my bday about 10 days ago, wicked lens but geezus now I have to spend all this cash on tripod/macro rail gear! For the time being I am just shooting further out handheld at f/16+ to keep it all in focus.. What lens are you using??Originally posted by msommers

If you want the cadillac of rails, RRS has them
http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductD...ng-rail&key=it
Then you need an arca-swiss style mount / bracket on your body and a arca-swiss ballhead... www.markins.com
lol expensive but you can find cheaper alternatives!

Thick wetsuits are cheap (I paid under $300 for my 7mm), dry suits not so much, start around $1200 and go up from there.Originally posted by msommers

That damn dirty ape hides from me every time I go to the zoo.
Out by Wainwright the last few days:

And another 100% crop from the D800

Random shot from Stampede. Feel like the clouds are a bit overexposed.
Haha that ape...I think I've seen it once in the last several trips to the zoo. Nothing is ever out when I go!
PS that cropping ability is ridiculous. Thinking real hard about a D800E....must resist for now.
Great shots Matt! The middle one is awesome. That's some buttery bokeh.
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!

matt, love the detail on the leaf shot!
ryan, do you also bring a camera and lens whenever in the field? love that shot and D800's cropping abilitiy is impressive!
I wish the stands were full on this last one.. This was all during practice though.
Getting ready to go out in the rain today. Eff.
