Courses are exactly the same for EMBA, even according to official calendar. It has the “better” Friday Saturday schedule available rather than evenings. They pay for your parking and give you food making the cost more “all in”. Expectations for courses are lower, you can’t really fail an MBA course but EMBA is very much a if you show up you get your A. More group work / participation and less examination. It’s also easier to get into the EMBA program as most entry requirements are waived, if you can pay you are in.

But hey, you get to use the executive title.

It’s pretty tough to justify, especially considering it’s less academically rigorous and I would argue you will get less out of it if you are actually into the content of the degree. If all you are after is letters and someone else is paying then fill your boots.

Presumably the EMBA contacts are better. Or it’s all a group of people with poor decision making abilities. Hard to say.

There may be a lot of overlap in that Venn diagram.

I would say I have about as much respect for the university of Calgary as a sait student yea.

    If that’s what you mean?

Haha. I meant Sait is to UofC, as MBA is to EMBA.

edit: I am an undereducated buffoon without a masters of any type. Please take my off the cuff comments as such.

Ahhh got it. I can live with that classification

Sounds like it’s time to shit or get off the pot and get your masters!

Now what I find really comical, is people paying any amount of money to take a virtual mba from u of c. If you are going to do a degree online, at least get it from a real business school.

I looked into the one you suggested earlier in this thread but I definitely can't justify $100k (or $130k if you want the name Cornell attached to it). I think right now the MBA program, as with most formal post secondary education, is online but I would assume as soon as they can it would resume in person.

That's the one I almost did. Two years in a row I nearly pulled the trigger. Two people I know did the queens/cornell program, they both have very good things to say about it (I wouldn't discount the possibility of confirmation bias), and both said it was very demanding.

I'm still progressing in my career at a decent pace; until I see that slow down, it's unlikely I'm going to give up that much time and money for an MBA.

I no doubt the Queens/Cornell course would be excellent but $100k is a little rich for my blood

I might be wrong but I think another benefit to emba is that you can finish the whole program in a year.

Plus you can shout "Em-baH bitches!!!" from the upper levels of Scurfield Hall. So you'd have that going for you.

I mean it’s only 20 courses, totally doable in a year if you really want to.

    The EMBA ones sure aren’t.

I'd only get an MBA or EMBA at U of C just so I can have a reason to go get Bake Chef again.
I don't really care about the title, networking, or whatever bullshit content they want to peddle.

I remember this mom and pop in ict that had the best egg bun sandwiches for like $3 and $2 costco muffins. Until the campus food union or something had it shut down. Good memories.
