The number of people who think Rockyview and Badlands are the same track is astonishing. (Not in this thread, but on Facebook and various news sites comments sections)

There's a huge difference between the east side of Rockyview and the west side. Come west of the 2 and try again. Most of the council ignores most of the west side.

So whats the city going to do now for drivers training for CPS/FIRE/EMS? Have a little faith guys, something else will happen, just might take a few more years........save up for a faster/better prepped car?

Beyond was super guilty of it as well, haha. I wrote an article highlighting some of the differences after going to a RMP meeting.

I don't think many realizes that because they've been so low key, which in the end worked to their advantage.
However, the way developments (or anything really, like a manufacturer introducing a new car) are usually done is they actually start developing it and confirming it can get built before they spend a huge portion of the budget on promotion.
By my estimates, Rockyview spend almost 1/3 of their budget for promotion. They made it sound in the news media that it was almost a done deal and would definitely happen. I have my speculation as to why it was done this way, and it certainly wasn't in the Motorsports communities best interests. Selling trackdays through crowd funding on a project not even close to being approved was very misleading.
Badlands is planning to promote the project on a larger scale than Rockyview did, but that will only happen when all permits are in place, construction starts, and people can actually see what IS being built, not what has a slim chance of being built.

[A] 17-year-old speed demon is facing a mandatory court appearance in traffic court after he was allegedly driving 182 kilometres an hour in a 80 kilometre zone.
A release from RCMP explained the young speeder was stopped on Wednesday morning by an officer conducting speed enforcement on Range Road 11, near Highway 566.
RMP never had a snow balls chance in hell. They went about the whole process ass backwards.
Badlands has always been the most viable option. Now they're the only option. I'm happy about that. The people behind Badlands seem to have their shit together.
The distance from Calgary is a non-issue for me, and I'm thinking most others. At least the ones that matter. When I'm down in California plenty of people travel 80-90min+ for events, nobody blinks an eye. A world class facility with the infrastructure Badlands is planning will never happen anywhere near town it's just that simple. And a drag strip Enough is enough, it's never going to happen, it's been explained why about a billion times.

Totally. Their location is great. It's not that far from Edmonton either, so they can capture both markets (+Red Deer) pretty easily. Building close to a city is never going to end well. I feel like Castrol is even too close to development. There's always that sense that it's temporary.Originally posted by rx7_turbo2

I'm very excited about Badlands and it's about a 2 hour tow from my house. That's nothing.
Castrol will have to close down in a decade. The land is planned for the future YEG expansion already for another runway.Originally posted by JustinL

not sure if this is the right spot for this, or if its a repost, but pretty disappointing news on the calgary track aspiration point.

After a 12-hour hearing in Calgary, Alberta, a multi-million dollar, professional grade race track called Rockyview Motorsports Park was denied its development permits.
