Are they fucking crazy? 65db is SOOO quiet. Tire noise will be louder than that. Lets hope it all works out with the mitigations.

I also hope they do a pay to play scenario like the Nürburgring. A single lap ticket is €25 Monday to Thursday, and €30 Friday to Sunday. With bulk rates and a season pass for 2,200€.
65db at the property limits. Depending on the distance to the edge of the property and how the berms are constructed that could still be 100+db at the track.

The course is not being designed for spectator racing. 300 memberships are being sold to the course, starting at $37,500 as an initiation fee, plus annual memberships. Young revealed to CTV News that 190 of them are already reserved.
Curious about what the annual membership cost would be. 37.5k just for a sign up fee is hella steep. But then again if it means I can go out there lapping every weekend that could be pretty cheap compared to paying for individual events.

65db at their land perimeter though.

I'll be on whatever track gets built around here, whenever it gets built. The price is too steep for me to become a member, but I'll get there with a club. It would also be great to have races on another track during the season as Castrol has gotten a bit stale for me. 2020 opening seems optimistic to me... but we'll see what happens.

I went and drove the track layout, it’s not bad. Reasonable elevation changes are being engineered in.

Based on that video, they haven't started the dirt-work, which will be substantial before they do any paving. I'd be impressed if they had a driving surface before September.

Just saw the news the new racetrack is set to open this summer?!?? Oh my goodness, had to yell out “YEEESSSS”. Haven’t been this excited in a very long time. Now I’m REALLY serious about shopping for a summer fun car.

Didn't we talk about this somewhere recently? There's a fuckton of dirtwork to be done before they can get to paving. Track open before Aug 15th would be a big surprise to me.

Yes that’s a start, preferably a Bugatti Chiron or Koenigsegg CCXR. LOL... no, unfortunately I didn’t win the lotto.

Yeah, I've had quite a few people mention it to me because "I'm a car person", but I'm not sure how Rockyview plans to leapfrop Badlands in terms of progress.

Is badlands still a thing? I vaguely remember a year ago them still saying they had to rework their development plan. Have they actually made any headway?

Badlands is currently under a M&A. They have all permits to build however.

Badlands was way ahead. The project seems to have stagnated due to lack of investors. Either that or they're just tight lipped.

Rockyview kept moving along and caught up. They got their development permit last year, a year after rezoning. Badlands got those years ago and nothing.

I wonder if Rockview is pushing really hard to be the first one open. Those 30k sign up fees for memberships will be a lot easier to sell when you are the only track open.

Though badlands is pretty far from the city so Rockyview will probably always be more attractive in that regard.

First one wins. I'd be surprised if Calgary area can support 2 tracks.

People getting excited for Rockyview are in for a shock when they realize the track won't really be accessible to the public. AKA: secret street ain't ever comin' back.

Doesn't it say a portion of the track time will be made available to clubs and organizations? Could be possible for groups to rent out the track and then people just pay to race for the day.

I believe I read 50%, which will likely all be between Monday-Friday as I am sure they will keep weekends for members only.
That would still be fine. I went to a few Stratotech events that were weekdays in the summers. Duck from work a bit early and go from 4-9pm is a solid amount of time to do a bunch of laps and still be home at a reasonable hour.
