Not surprised there. I'm surprised they're selling memberships based on 1 "approval". Well, they approved the rezoning of the land last year.

    http://www.mountainviewcounty.com/ab...track-proposal

Clearly states what has to happen next.

AFAIK, none of which has been started, as these are all public record documents with invitation for public hearings. Long ways to go before moving dirt IMO.
This is highly unlikely to go through. As far as I am aware the proposed location is on top of an active sour gas well and has another right beside it. The risk involved with a sour gas leak, no matter how slim, will make this impossible unless they move the track to respect current government regulated setbacks from sour gas wells. I would put money on this not happening unless it’s moved or they won’t to pay a highly inflated price to the producer (reserves+land value+abandonment costs+any other perceived value) to abandon the wells.

Hopefully nobody has $$ invested from beyond.

Like I mentioned in this thread from 4 years ago, I'll be a customer, but I can't see investing any money in it either through crowdfunding donation or other. http://www.straightpipe.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=2086

I was approached to invest in their first attempt when it was by airdrie. They burnt through a bunch of money having Tilke design a track on land that wasn’t approved or paid for. It made no sense to me. Not sure what they spent so far on the Carstairs project. Hopefully not a track design again haha.

Those sound like very amateur mistakes considering who's involved. What gives?

Agreed. If it wasn’t for Cardel guys involved, who are absolutely stand up guys, I would’ve called it out as a scam. Here’s the original Airdrie project thread:

Area27 is a beautiful track in a great part of the country. It's built on First Nations land and that I'm sure played a role in how fast they got it done. I think the band just decided to make it happen and blitzed the process. Vancouver Island Motorsports went together really quickly too, which I find shocking among the retired hippies. Alberta seems like prime motorsports population, but for whatever reason we can't get a second road course built.

Area27 sits on Indian land. Completely different ballgame which makes things much easier.

If only we had a reserve bordering the city... that was recently flush with cash and had first hand experience of the demand of car enthusiasts in this city... if only

Sure, it all sounds great until you realize the millions of dollars that the city forked over to build the ring road through their land. Additionally, the gifting of acres of land near Bragg Creek.

What I am trying to get at is that the indigenous community cannot be bullied into giving a portion of their land for the desire of your own good.

Why are they giving anyone land? They have the means to finance a track themselves... just like the casino, take the white peoples money

A track makes money 4-6 months out of the year, three times a week (pending the weather). The casino, on the other hand, is nearly a 24/7/365 day operation.

As much as I would want the track as the next guy, it just doesn't make sense for them to build a track on their land. Although, I would be interested in a statistic that depicts how many track-worthy cars the indigenous community has?

We got lots of Indians and lots of white man's sports cars.

    Let's get this done.

Area 27 only operates 6 months of the year. They leased Osoyoos land for 99 years. The goal is to bring other businesses to the area. I don’t think that will happen to be honest, it’s too close to penticton and kelowna for people that want to stick around longer when using their facilities.

Having a track on TT land here, it would bring zero dollars to TT. People would just drive in to drive and GTFO afterwards being literally right beside Calgary.

I assume they would be some kind of equity partner in the deal? Not sure the business model of most of these tracks.

You seem very qualified on racetrack operations... hey, maybe try calling Castrol and booking one of those other 4 days of the week they don’t use!

How about that casino and hotel they have... wouldn’t be too wild of an idea that if they built a world class facility that people would stay there during events... maybe take in a show too

I don’t see how this is any different of a concept than the old golf course they had to rip out for the ringroad... give access to the white man right on the edge of the reserve, more money in than money out is good business. It amazing how much more entrepreneurial reserves outside of Alberta are compared to what we see here

“We cannot exceed 65 decibels at the perimeter of our land.” said Young. “That's why the berms are so high. Quite frankly, we have berms that are going to be eight meters high.”
Are they fucking crazy? 65db is SOOO quiet. Tire noise will be louder than that. Lets hope it all works out with the mitigations.

I also hope they do a pay to play scenario like the Nürburgring. A single lap ticket is €25 Monday to Thursday, and €30 Friday to Sunday. With bulk rates and a season pass for 2,200€.

The course is not being designed for spectator racing. 300 memberships are being sold to the course, starting at $37,500 as an initiation fee, plus annual memberships. Young revealed to CTV News that 190 of them are already reserved.
