Default Sandwich trick for rental cars?

Anyone ever try sandwich trick for rental cars? Nothing came up when i searched.

Have a cadillac CTS booked through avis(via priceline $50/day), but they don't guarantee you will get a CTS, and i didn't want to pay premium for a jalopy town car. Wouldn't mind dropping another $20-$50 to get something baller.

It involves a car, might be a half and half as mentioned in The Sopranos. Uncle Jun was offered said from an old street hooker. In any case, hold the mayo.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

The "sandwich trick" is a $20 or $50 bill, sandwiched between your DL and VISA, which you can get comp'd upgrades usually at hotels.

The sando trick (along with being very polite) has worked like a charm for me in Vegas. I would think that it would also work quite well for a rental car. What have you got to lose? Worst case like 20 bucks.

I was in Miami and told the guy at Hertz that if he "hooked me up" that I would "hook him up".

I got a Mercedes GL550 for ~$600 when it would of cost me ~$1600-1800.

How much was your end of the "hook up"? Over and above the rental.

I used the "sandwich trick" on a parking cop, well basically a breadless sandwich, it worked fine so I'd say go for it again next time

When I did it in Vegas I just handed it to the lady and said "Are there any complementary upgrades available?"

Here is my trick for a rental car upgrade. Works most of the time.

NEVER take the keys to a car at the desk. Just ask the front desk if they have any other cars on the lot at the moment. The front desk person will usually just let you talk to the guys working the lot and they will set you up with a car instead. Half the time those guys don't know (or care) what they are giving out and you often can get an upgrade by asking them if they have "anything nice and new" on the lot. If anything at least you will get the newest car they have.

Once had a reservation for an "standard" car at a killer price and the guys on the lot ended up giving me a full size Nissan Altima with less than 500 km on it.

My wife just recently had an economy reservation and got a 2012 VW Golf that had never been rented.
